Statistically, these teams are so close to each other. MSU has more edges, but the margins are really small.
The key metric that I think will swing the game to MSU is 3rd/4th Down conversions. Both teams are excellent on offense, but the Cats have been decidedly better on defense.

I think MSU had starters out of games more often. It would be interesting to see the stats for the last five games. Both played playoff teams the final two regular season games. Probably still close though.
I don’t think the margins are small in three key areas: yards per carry (1.9) yards per attempt allowed (1.2) and yards per play (0.9)

What the numbers tell, and what my eyes confirm is that the major reason for our teams success hinges on 2 things… Tommy’s QB play and our Defense. I know Tommy is going to be dialed in, and with Daly in the room, I know the Defense will do what it’s always done this year. Adjust, dial, stop! We will not lose in Frisco this year! It is indeed the Year of the Cat!

I do feel like this really, really, could be the year! Seems like everything is lining up to fulfil a destiny. 40 years exactly since the last National Championship. Redemption from Tommy getting hurt on the first series against them in Frisco last time, that blocked XP in Bozeman last year, talk about some extra motivation (as if that's really even needed). We've all felt it all year, just watching how this team operates, what they say in the interviews, etc... can't count the number of times I've heard, "This team is special." Their coach hasn't been there before, ours has. Crazy talent all over the roster in this team... and TOMMY.
Yes, NDSU is a damn good team and this is going to be a huge test for our Bobcats and yes it's possible the Bizon beat us. However, I just have a feeling this is going to be the grand finale of all grand finales. Go Cats!

I feel like maybe some of the Bisons are living in the past, similar to our little brothers down the interstate? Fear us! We used to be dominant!

Of the past 14 seasons the bīthon haven't made it to the semi-final once, 2020. Of the 10 times they have reached the championship in the last 14 years they were the champs 9 times. It's only been in the last 3 seasons that other teams have finally been able to get on the same level as them, by copying exactly what they did. I'd say they have been dominant and still are a dominant team. You're a fool to think otherwise.

Oh they are still damn good and were very dominant almost to the point of being untouchable, from about 2011 through 2021l so about three years ago. All I'm saying is that things have changed now. Are they back to being what they were and going to thump the Cats in Frisco? I don't think so but we'll find out in about 12 days.

Wow! Those three stats are glaring. I would say that MSU may have played an easier schedule, but I also think MSU has had its backups in more than NDSU has, so I think those two things balance out.

Cats might have rested starters a little bit more, but the Bison sample includes two games against the best defense in the nation, so I think it washes out.

Their past is incredible. Best our level has ever seen.
Not sure how that is gonna matter January 6th.

Agree. I wonder how many times throughout that 9 game championship run... were the Bison the underdogs?? I would guess zero, until now.

They definitely played a tougher schedule. I think the last five games were fairly even though.

Not a stat thing but I think the EWU game is a good one to evaluate for NDSU’s WR Lance. He had a career game vs sdsu. Cats held Chism III to 9-87-1, while having to focus on EWU plus1 run game w/o knowing it was coming. That offense might be most similar to NDSU in terms of style, not effectiveness. Maybe New Mexico is similar too.
I think USD is most similar to NDSU, defensively. Their OL is also probably most like NDSU. I think USD might be better in both areas. If Bouman was a better runner, USD might have won the MVFC outright.
