Week 5 - Rushing over/under vs ISU
Well last week's aggressive o/u of 407 and everyone taking the over made the house some cash. Cats used the pass effectively to split the yards and had 256 rushing.
This week's number is set at 297.

I'll take the under. Watching the ISU defense they are committed to stopping the run. Lots of blitzes and aggressive play at the line. If the OC is smart and from what I have seen he is, they will mix the run with PA pass/bootlegs and we will have a more balanced attack. Now there is a high chance that we get up early so we run the ball a lot which could make us go slightly over. I see us rushing for around 270-290 with around 200yds passing. Some explosive plays that get us up and allow us to commit to the run game, which as I stated earlier will put is possibly over.RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 8:57 pmWell last week's aggressive o/u of 407 and everyone taking the over made the house some cash. As a type this I can see us going over only because we utilize the PA/bootleg and tommy takes off running which goes to rushing yards. It isn't a good bet to go over or under at this number because it is too close to our avg and looking at style of play and our ability on offense it could go either way...bad bet either way.

I'll take the over. With conference play starting, I think the Cats will play to their strength - RTDB. I feel that Vigen is committed to the ball-control, take-time-off-the-clock style of play that he has built this team around. This style of offense should be enough to handle the Bengals this week and the Bears next week. The coaches aren't ready and willing to show much more on tape in prep for the Vandal game.

I'll take the over. The CATS will need to control the ball and keep the ISU offense off the field as much as possible. Get a lead and then let the DL pin their ears back and go put some PAIN on the QB.

I'll take the under but they will rush for over 250. I think ISU will load the box and make the Cats pass. MSU has the athletes at receiver to make them pay and Tommy has been very efficient getting the ball to them. MSU will get around 500 yds of total offense.

Over. It's a road game and our depth will be limited to the travel team so if its a blow out we will still have starters and 2's playing significant time. If its closer they will be in a lot of the game.

Over, ISU is ranked 106/123 in the FCS for Rushing defense, giving up 212 ypg in rushing

I think ISU will come out to stop the run (Einsteinian, I know) but MSU will get the Bengals out of that mode by the end of the first quarter. I'll take the under because MSU may have less than 50 yards rushing by the end of the first quarter.

Over, they’ll load the box to slow down the run game, which may or may not work to some extent(see their current rushing defensive ranking). But the Cats are balanced enough to make them pay for doing that, and then continue to run the ball to put the game away in the second half.
I’ll be surprised if it’s under 300 this game.

The 5-3-3 used to be more of a novelty defense. The gris and not many others? Now the ‘Cats have seen it at least twice already. I was at the Utah Tech game and they used it. Seems we’ve seen it again — was it Mercyhurst? The more they see it the more they learn to defeat it. It really comes back to line play — maybe they’ll stand their line up like the gris did a few years past.

Against Mercyhurst, MSU was held under 100 yards in the first half. Mercyhurst is just the third team to do that since the start of 2022. Idaho did it last year and SDSU did it in 2022 playoffs and last season. MSU did end up with 256 vs Mercyhurst, so they had about 160 in the second half, which tells me that they figured it out. MSU would've been over 100 in the first half but had three rush plays of -17 yards. One play was a great play by Mercyhurst. The other two were a combo of MSU messing up but Mercyhurst played a role in that.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:33 amThe 5-3-3 used to be more of a novelty defense. Re: Week 5 - Rushing over/under vs ISU
That is misleading. 5 drives in first half. 1 3 and out. Longest was 70 yds for FG, 3 others for TD of 57, 57, 60. 21 rushes. 13 passes. Only 1 rush in 2 minute drill. Lost a possession because of punt block td. Have to believe if Cats are not starting in such good field position you could add 80 to 100 yards of offense. I bad series really because of a poor 3rd down play.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 11:36 amAgainst Mercyhurst, MSU was held under 100 yards in the first half.
