Welp, the gameday thread devolved from eloquence to white trash rather quickly...
Nice write up.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 10:45 amHere's some information on Utah Tech for those who may be unfamiliar with that program, like I was before spending a half hour Googling all this.
MSU-Utah Tech Series History
MSU is 3-0 all time against Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State).
Sept. 15, 2007 - MSU defeated Dixie State (D-II) 61-7 in Rob Ash's first home game and first of 70 career wins as Bobcat head coach. Kory Austin scored twice on special teams with a punt return TD and a return of a blocked field goal. Jack Rolovich (221 yards, 2 TD) and Demetrius Crawford (128 rushing yards, 1 TD) led the Bobcats on offense.
Sept. 12, 2009 - MSU squeaked by Dixie State (D-II) 23-20 in the home opener. After leading 13 - 7 at the half, MSU fell behind early in the third quarter after a Dixie State touchdown. A Mark Iddins to Kyle Begger TD pass followed by a Jason Cunningham FG gave MSU a 23-14 lead they would hold until Dixie State scored a TD with 11 seconds left to tighten the final scoreline.
Sept. 2, 2023 - MSU beat Utah Tech 63-20 in last year's Gold Rush game. Scottre Humphrey led MSU with 114 rushing yards and 3 TDs, and MSU outrushed Utah Tech 404-49 overall.
Utah Tech in 2024
This will be Utah Tech's season opener and first game played under new head coach Lance Anderson. Coach Anderson played linebacker for Idaho State in 1993 & 1994 and started his coaching career in Pocatello in 1997. After several stops he joined Jim Harbaugh's staff at the U. of San Diego in 2005 as Defensive Line Coach. He followed Harbaugh to Stanford in 2007 and coached there under Harbaugh and David Shaw until 2022, first as a position coach and then as Defensive Coordinator from 2014 - 2022. Last year he was an analyst for Boise State before being hired by UTU.
Utah Tech as a team comes in as a bit of an unknown with a new coaching staff and the large number of outgoing and incoming transfer activity that tends to come with a coaching change these days. They were picked 8th of 9 teams in the UAC preseason poll, and the only Utah Tech player named to the UAC preseason all-conference team was long snapper Ryan Kean. The starting QB will likely be Deacon Hill, a transfer from Wisconsin and Iowa who made nine starts for the Hawkeyes last year. Hill is 6'4", 258 lbs making Sean Chambers at 6'3", 221 look rather small by comparison. Hill is primarily a passing QB and no rushing stats to speak of for Iowa in 2023.
The Prediction
A long night for Utah Tech. MSU has more experience, more talent, and the advantage of a game under its belts. Bobcat fans will remember 2006 and Chadron State but the teams will not, as a child born when that game was played could now be a freshman student at MSU. The score: 41 - 14 MSU in a closer scoreline than the stats would indicate. GO BOBCATS!
This is perfect! Thankfully!MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 10:45 amHere's some information on Utah Tech for those who may be unfamiliar with that program, like I was before spending a half hour Googling all this.

I heard two stories, the first was that he got 4 DUIs and tried to cover up the last three. The second was that he wasn’t asked back after chucking a clipboard in a Senior citizen’s center, injuring 3 elderly gentlemen.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 12:35 pmI wonder what happened for the HC to go from a P4 DC for 9 years to an analyst at Boise State to a HC at UTU. That's a steep drop.
