Choate used to like to recruit quarterbacks knowing they were good, smart athletes that could contribute at other positions. Oxarart (5-11, 175 per MaxPreps) will probably be a DB. I think he was injured last season and missed most of the football season and all of the hoop season. His sophomore year he put up some good dual-threat numbers for Class B Jefferson (Boulder, Mont.). Boulder and MSU have had a strong football connection through the years. Timmer brothers, Adam Cordeiro, Jared Padmos and more recently Dalton Noble.

Sounds like a preferred walk-on.

I feel like this might be one of the annual “Rylan Ortt” type of Montana recruits. It seems like every year there is a MT recruit that might not have initially been super high on anyone’s list, but turns out to be a big time player for the program.

He’s also a good track athlete. 11.17 100m, 168-7 javelin (4th at state), 4x400 first at state, 4x100 third at state, 49-11.75 shot third at state. Jefferson has been killing it in track for the past 3-4-5 years.

Super impressive shot put from a smaller athlete. Indicates great technique and explosion. Reminiscent of a smaller Cordeiro and Grebe.

I'm guessing this belongs here.

Getting some of that Malta hi-line blood back in the program, I like it.

Jefferson placed 1-2-3-4 (and ninth) in the shotput at state B track this year. I coached the throws in Class B for almost 20 years and I've never seen a school get 5 throwers in the finals at state. Happens in AA once in a while but obviously that's far less schools. Oxarart only threw the shot at two regular season meets, then throws a quarter inch shy of 50' at state. And you're exactly right...I know that coach is one of the best in MT, but even he couldn't get a smaller guy to throw that far unless he was an absolute missile of an athlete. I've maybe seen a couple kids that small (5'11, 175 according to his hudl) throw that far...maybe.

Yeah. Even discus makes sense with a smaller guy because of the rotation and some guys have really long arms, but shot put? That’s just crazy. Must have perfect technique and a really strong core. Like you said, they clearly have a good coach there.

They do, and obviously he deserves a lot of credit. But he can only do so much. I actually didn't make that connection until Tom said something, that he was one of those Jefferson shotputters that almost ran the table at state. Not knowing the kid at all, I can take away that he has elite strength for his size, that he's explosive, that he's pretty fast (big part of his success in shotput I'm sure), and that he's smart enough to understand the concept of leverage that his coach is teaching him.

A few weeks back i was told he was, "Cats or nothing" from his brother. Luke's brother was a great athlete as well in the aspect of being very fast and strong too. Luke's brother had other aspirations of life, which is not college football. Luke comes from a great MSU Alumni Family where both his parents graduated from MSU. Looking forward to seeing Luke on the field in the future.

I read that three times and still have no idea what it means, lol. Are you saying the brother was going to be a Cat too? Did he get recruited?

I took it as a poorly worded "Cats or bust" for Luke. If he got an offer from the Cats he'd go there over everywhere else and if he didn't he wouldn't play in college.

Luke, probably won't be playing running back for the Cats,
but he had 311 yards rushing last Friday against Three Forks most of the yardage was in the second half.

He’s a tough sum-bee! Vastly underrated.
