Great topic, especially since I just finished out the new rec room for my pool table (covered with a Bobcat table cover). Regular items like a blue Bobcat helmet, current year bball and football schedule posters framed and a couple Miracle in Missoula posters. Two other items are my favorites though. First is a FCS National Championship football signed by Troy and Tommy. Second is something I actually forgot I had and found in a drawer…a 2002 Cat/Griz game tshirt with “Spank the Griz” cartoon and signed by the entire starting lineup of the streak breaking team.
It is a great topic, fun to see what people have collected over the years. We used to go to the Triangle Classic fundraiser every spring in Great Falls from Bigfork. I’ve collected two Bobcat footballs at those events and one is signed by Dan Fouts and Denaruis McGhee and another by Joe Theisman. I’ve got a 11 yr old yellow lab I bought at that auction and named him McGhee…lol…love the dog and he’s hanging in there. I’ve got a gold helmet signed by coach Ash and Sonny Lubick. A team photo from I believe the 2014 team with all signatures, but my most treasured items I have are on 3 of my trucks, they are Bobcat plates that say GrizH8er, H8Griz and AntiGriz…A lot of fun in the Flathead Valley which is strongly Gris country, although they’ve been pretty quite the last 6 yrs.

With success comes attention, with attention comes cockiness, with cockiness comes arrogance, with arrogance comes rudeness...and they wonder why I hate the Griz ! FTG

It’s good to know I can at least have a cool topic, especially since my question got dumped on in the R&R pod 😭 but it’s been awesome to read about all the awesome stuff people have collected over the years. I can’t wait to continue building my collection

When the Sonny Holland endzone upgrade was done in 2011, MSU began offering a new "collector's" cup in the concessions every year. I have tried to save a cup from each season. Wish I would have marked each cup with the corresponding year. Looked for a new one this past Saturday during Gold Rush, but none of the concessions stands had one.

Thanks for sharing Camo Cat, I’ve collected quite a few of these as well. You have some I’ve never seen before. I think over the last few years they stopped producing these. Perhaps deemed not environmentally friendly as most end up in the trash or not cost effective. Other schools switched to aluminum cups at least for beer, which are more recyclable.

Another BN poster had one of these belt buckles that he posted on a similar thread a few years ago. I picked this up in 2021. These were on white belts that were worn on the ROTC uniforms in the 1930s and 40s.

Picked this up a few days back for good luck. Cats won the game 22-13.

This guy is selling three 1976 National Championship programs. I already grabbed one. Offer him $25 and you should get it.

That’s a grizzly program, so buyer beware. Montana State College in Bozeman became Montana State University in 1965. Anything with MSU before that year is Missoula and the Gris.

You seem like a guy that might know this: what's the deal with the name changes? I know we got the name when we officially became a "university" but it seems like it would have been easier to just give us the UM name instead of taking MSU from Missoula and both schools having to change names.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Colorado Cat you got me thinking so I did some research on this matter. This helps to explain the names of the two universities. I think ‘State’ had to be in the name to indicate it was a public university. The photo is from the book, ‘In The People’s Interest’ a centennial history of Montana State University. The other is just a google search.

Maybe recruits who post they got an offer from the University of Montana State aren’t so far off after all ?

Montana State College of the University of Montana is definitely a mouthful.

I see your question has already been answered. Thanks guys! Anyway, yes from what I’ve read in the past, it caused a bit of a stir for both schools to change names in 1965 rather than just one, but they worked it out. Heck, as noted above, both schools changed names numerous times over the previous years anyway.

Just a good rule of thumb, when searching for MSU related items on eBay, be aware of the name changes or you could get burned. Even just checking for ‘Montana State’ items can be risky.
