With how NDSU ended the season and ALL the talent they are losing, #3 seems pretty high.

SDSU is going to be tough...

#3 seems high for NDSU until you think about which teams should be ranked there instead of them and have a hard time coming up with any clear candidates. UIW would maybe be the best one, but they're now on their third head coach in three years and like NDSU lost a ton of talent to the portal. They did reload with some Power 5 guys to replace the departures but the constant churn of coaches and players seems like it will catch up to them at some point.

I am not at all happy that UM is unranked. The media blowing hot air up their backside makes the brawl that much sweeter.

Could have said, and quite a few did, the same thing about MSU after '21. Yet, semifinals again.

Is Sam feeling ok???

MSU higher than UM and no UM at all.

It's been a joy to see the griz be over-hyped and the media to eat crow.

I read two of these yesterday. The other one had NDSU and MSU flipped and had UM at #9--can't remember the source.

Idaho made a massive jump in ‘22 but I’m not sold on them being #6. Maybe top 15. I think they’re really good but not certain #6 is their spot.

Sam must be unaware that UM reeled in some “big time” transfers who, at one time or another, had the privilege of being backups at powerhouses like Dixie Tech State, Hawai’i, and Akron.

They weren’t the second best team in the BSC this last year but they return a lot of talent. I don’t like it when predictors hedge.

I think #2 is right.

2021, the Cats beat SDSU by 14 at home.

2022, the Jacks beat MSU by 21 at home.

They’re on a similar level. The key in 2023 is to position yourself to host throughout.

Of course, they did that in 2022 and the committee robbed them anyways.

I think that’s why some Bobcat fans (me included) were so pissed when the seeding came out. We did what we were supposed to do and a few pieces (SDSU beating NDSU) fell into the proper places for us to be expecting the #2 seed.

A really good friend of mine is an NDSU alum. He was shocked at the seeding. He was under the assumption it would be 1-SDSU 2-MSU 3-Sac St 4-NDSU

Herder's always been pretty fair, and he's a good enough sports writer that he could cover higher level play if he pushed it. He has found a niche in FCS and I am glad he doesn't seem to have plans to go elsewhere. That said, I did catch a recent podcast (I don't remember which) in which he remarked that if Montana State and um moved to the Mountain West he might want to follow them, as this area is his biggest and most faithful audience.

Craig Hailey is the one that always seems to have a love affair with the griz. https://theanalyst.com/na/2023/01/fcs-f ... 23-season/

Number 1 vs Number 2 in the second week of the season. One is the defending national champion. I expect some national coverage for an FCS game. I would not be surprised to see this one on ESPN or ESPN 2.

Yep. It was not only the unfair ranking, but also clearly the incorrect one.

MSU was supposed to jump a team with a better record and a tougher schedule by every conceivable metric?

Not a shot in hell.

They bumped NDSU up for being NDSU, but didn't punish Sac for being Sac.

Exactly this.

Either you go objective and just look at records and schedules and MSU is over NDSU, OR you use the eye test and MSU is over SAC.

The committee had it both ways and the Cats got screwed.

My thought was an 8-3 season and no seed because the young o-line and no Ifanse. What I didn’t realize was how quickly those guys in the trench would succeed.

The expectation next year should be Frisco, even with what seems like the most difficult schedule I can recall. As always, injuries can screw up things but on paper this team is loaded.
