Semb is bad, really bad. Hard to believe the Missoulian keeps him on staff. Transplant beat writer who literally has no clue.

And he seems to be leading the fan bandwagon. It's really odd, to be honest.

I don't think that's new at the Missoulian. Rather than moving back to the middle like Flores, although from the opposite end of the spectrum, it sounds like he's planning to lean into being the egriz rep for the newspaper in the coming year.

I mean you're right, whoever covers the Griz at the Missoulian historically seems to be pretty homer-ish. Semb is really taking that to the next level though. It's his little spats in the replies that just rub me the wrong way, you don't see many journalists being so stand-offish.

Shaun Rainey (from San Diego) is running a close second for biggest beat Gris homer but let us not forget Speltz, either. Quite a trio!

Not defending the aforementioned group of Gris homer ?journalists? but you have to admit they each play exactly to what the majority of their hometown homer readers want. It's kind of sad really.

I also thought it was pretty unprofessional to see and hear the UM assistant AD yelling at the refs "It's not a foul!" From the press/scores table.

Back when newspapers ruled media, you’d have multiple beat writers covering strictly news, a feature writer, a sports editor and a columnist, all separate positions. Now, no one has the staff for that.

I haven’t seen a consistent sports column in the Chronicle since I wrote one…and that was more than 10 years ago.

I think hard copy subscribers are down about 75%. Sports staffs are down over 50%.

Imo sports, nationally, were better when print media ruled.
