Always hard to see a promising career cut short due to injuries. Hope his recovery goes well and he doesn't have any lasting effects from it going forward!

I've been coaching the discus over 20 years and I've seen just a handful of guys throw 175' in Montana. I've never seen a 175' throw with pretty average technique, which Bryce has here. I don't mean that as an insult; he's playing football and basketball all year and probably doesn't touch a discus until mid-March. This is a testament to his strength, size and athleticism. If he was coached year-round in the discus, I have no doubt he'd be able to go over 200' and he'd be one of the best in the country. Thankfully he's focused on football!

Don't know where else to put this and I don't think it needs its own thread, but Patrick Duchein started his week at State Golf in Shelby, then went straight to the State Baseball tournament in Butte and helped his team to the semi-finals where they lost by 1 to the eventual state champion (Polson). Then Friday afternoon he went to Missoula to place 2nd in the 400 at Divisional track. He's not a track guy--this is his first year doing high school track--but he just looks different out there. I've seen just about every elite Montana athlete who competes in track in the last 30 years, and he's one of those that makes you do a double take when you just see him. Can't wait to see what he can do!

Reed Harris won the Eastern AA 100 M with a 10.92. His season best is a blistering 10.8. I am guessing he will be perfectly fine playing wr at Boston College.

Whoa…200’ is a pretty strong statement. Wasn’t Lance Deal best around 200’ (I need to look on record chart in field house again) and NCAA is around 220’ if I recall?? So a 200’ throw would put him in pretty elite company. He’d get some interest from good track schools throwing that distance wouldn’t he?

College discus is bigger than high school so not an equal comparison.

As rivercat said, yes they do throw a heavier, larger discus in college. But that was my point...he would be getting interest from good track schools with that. If MSU track knew he wanted to pursue track they'd be after him as it is. There's probably already been a conversation between MSU's track team and him just saying "if things don't work out for football we'd love to have you in track". The Class C record was set last year by Walker McDonald from Seeley Swan and it was just under 175'. He's on scholarship at um throwing discus and hammer.

Colter Petre of Helena High won State AA LJ by going over 22 ft.

Big jump. HHS won both boys and girls LJ. Todorovich won the girls with an all class record of 19-4. She’s only a junior.

I think his next worst throw was about 12 feet farther than the next competitor and 15 feet under his winning distance. That is pretty impressive...

Was perplexed Kade didn't get at least a partial. Really good film plus production. He should be able to carve out a role for UM.
