I'm going to assume "an opportunity to play" is a walk-on spot. They have 2 punters on the spring roster.
You are correct.
My #1 negative from the game yesterday: we need a punter. I liked what I saw when Kautzman kicked (not punted) so I think we have a kicker but if they don't land Hall, expect the coaches to bring in a transfer regardless.
I’d think Hall would love punting at higher elevation in a lot less wind than Lubbock. Maybe a scholarship tips the balance. But the offense would probably have to guarantee him 3.5 punts per game, so there’s that.

Do we even need a punter on this team? I mean, the 1 or 2 punts we might have this fall you could just have Tommy kick it.

:)

Ha, I wish! Definitely don't need a good punter against most teams, but then we always hit the DSUs. Punted like three times against SDSU and maybe 4 or 5 the year prior against NDSU.

We did get that kid from WY. He kicked all year for his high school team.

Have the QB’s learn the ol Lulay roll punt. We don’t need no stinkin punter.

I noticed Ryland Swarthout wasn’t on the Spring game roster or on the list of players not participating. He also doesn’t have Bozeman listed on his Twitter page. I’m wondering if he is gone.

Not on the roster. Was he going to try to make it onto the DL? I think he used to be a TE? Don't remember hearing much about him.

Hulverson isn't on the roster either.

I was interested to see him. In high school he was like a multi-talented Troy Andersen. Crazy exploits.

I'm guessing this means Kaegun Williams isn't coming back.

Probably means Williams isn't coming back from his injury.

If history has told MSU anything, you need at least 6 backs ready to roll every season. Not only means there is uncertainty around Keagun Williams but possibly Lane Sumner hanging it up as well. Even if Lane comes back, its Lane, Elijah, Marquis, Jared, and Garrett with Scottie Humphrey coming in the fall as a true freshman. I just don't think this staff wants to be in the position they were in last year where they were one Elijah Elliot injury away from not have a legitimate RB for a stretch of the season as Coon got hurt for a time as well.

Maybe, but I'm not sure on that. Could be more of a too perfect of a fit to pass up type of situation. Last year proved we need to be 5-6 deep at the position.

2 years, 31 carries for 199 yards. But it was at Wisconsin. Running on 1st and 2nd down. Looks like he got passed on the depth chart with some new coaches.

This made getting him a bit harder, not his only FBS offer though. Hopefully, Big Al can seal the deal.

Maybe some of the backs we expected won't be here this fall. Sumner? Williams?

Williams probably isn’t coming back due to his injury. Just not announced yet.
