Here is a question that I was wondering; does anyone know what the all time record is for the Men's Cat-Griz basketball games?
When was the first time they played?
Are there any other interesting facts about the series?

Cats lead the all-time series 143-129.

I think that was when the "football is the only sport that counts" arguments began surfacing. There haven't been too many bad Cat B-ball teams when compared to bad Griz teams...IMHO

I think the first game was in 1901, if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately there are a lot of Griz fans that do think football is the only sport that counts :( Judging by how the forum (here and on egriz) quiets down quite a bit after football season is over, I'd say a lot of MSU fans are the same way.

Hopefully things will turn around for the Big Sky in basketball soon and both the cats & Griz will start to draw more fans. The Griz I know this year are drawing quite a bit more than they have in the previous years, and more people are talking about basketball...how is attendance for the Cats this year compared to previous years? I'd love to see the Big Sky conference become a good conference for both FB and Basketball, with attendance being good for the BB teams too like it is for many of the FB teams in the conference.

I also think it's amazing that little if any attention is given to Ladies' BB. Perhaps because it's pretty obvious that the Cats will do absolutely nothing this year?

You would be sort of correct re the Lady 'Cats this year. Bad problems with coaching in the recent (and not so recent) past led to the current situation.

Fortunately, things are looking up. New coach (who I think will do a great job), and a very young team. Injuries have also played a roll and we're lucky to be able to put 5 on the floor.

The program will come back, just had some major glitches that had absolutely nothing to do with the current staff or players.

Griz are very fortunate in the fact that Selvig has been the only coach in I don't know how many years, and has led the Lady Griz to great success.

Here's a link to an article for the game from ESPN.

It showed last night as the Lady Griz really stuck it to the Lady Cats. They fought hard, but the shots didn't fall for the Cats and they did for the Griz. The ladies got within 10 in the second half, but a three pointer by Britney Lohman(I have to admit that she's my friend, even though she's a Grizzly:oops:) started a Griz rally and they took off from there. Mandy Morales is a good player and it showed last night. Anyway, I'm looking forward to a different Cat-Griz result today.

Robin Selvig has been coaching at Montana since at least 1977/78. That might have been his 1st year there. His sister, Sandy, was on his team that year. I know this because . . . I am old too, but my hair isn't as gray as his is.
