Who does the BEST JOB of covering...?

Following up the Billings rant I have another question.
What Newspaper do you think does the best job covering both MSU and UM?
I am of the opinion that the Great Falls Tribune does the best job. With Mansch and Giese they do a good job of giving equal coverage on the teams.

Great Falls Tribune does the best, hands down. Some Griz fans are jealous that Scott Mansch gets to cover the Bobcats and they get Grizzly George, or so I've heard. (No smack intended.) The Chronicle comes in a close second. Jeff Welsch has done a lot to improve the sports section. The Gazette is far behind. I think the Helena IR does a good enough job, but I don't know because I only read it occasionally.

I agree that the Tribune is hands down the best and the best sports page period. I think saying the Chronicle is second is a bit of a stretch unles your talking just bobcats. FOr both Cats and Griz I would say the Trib then the IR then the Standard.

I would have voted for the Great Falls Trib. yesterday but after this line today:
There are a handful of Montana men playing small-college basketball outside this state — mainly in the Dakotas — and former Missoula Hellgate star Jack McGinniss is on the roster at the University of Washington, where he's redshirting.

They are on my $h!t list today.
For the record:
Name: McGillis
College: Oregon State
Status: NOT being redshirted!!

mslacat: That article was written by grizzly george. If it doesn't concern um, George basically doesn't care, so that explains the screw-up.

Great Falls Tribune hands down. They do a great job. Really go all out leading up to the big games (Cat/Griz have full game day pullouts etc. and color photos). The Chronical has come a long way in just over a year. They just need to be a little less edgy towards their readers I think. Other than that, they have really improved a lot.

Tribune, no contest. I'm pretty sure I have a problem when I actually get excited in anticipation of the Tribune releasing the Gridiron special with the complete pre-season analysis of all MT high school, Frontier, and of course Big Sky action. I read that thing cover to cover then hide it away somewhere by my nightstand for later reference. (One year my wife threw it away, along with some flyfishing mags and Cabela's catalogues...

we're back together now and working things out...

If you are a Bobcat Fan
For Bobcat info, I will give the Bozeman Chronicle the edge. Manch I think simply has a edge for his experiance, but Welsch and company I will give credit they have really been working hard the last 12-18 months to go beyond just reporting on game. They have been giving us recruiting tid bits and quite a few coaches interviews, and have personally called recruits themselves and their coaches. I really think they are going above and beyond just reporting what has happen, but also what is going to happen and I reapect that.
For Griz info: Trib. I can actually read the Griz articles with out going into diabetic coma.
If you are a Griz fan
Missoulain for Griz football: They do a pretty good job of covering Griz stuff heavily slanted as a Grizzly sugar-coater, but they do a very good job of getting the ear and scoop of the Griz coaches.
Bobcat schtuff: GreatFalls Great reporting by Mansch, good info, I think his sister, brothers, uncle

has connections in the athletic department, but takes a fairly nuetral stand most times. I think Giese is more of a Griz Homer than Mansch is a Bobcat homer, but my Griz friends disagree.

I'll have to say the Trib does a good job for both schools. The Granolian's sports is tough to swallow. Every item and tidbit no matter how small is about the sugar coated Griz. "On this day in 1967, the fabulous U of M basketweaving team outlasted the hemp twiners of Seattle Pacific"....

I don't read anything other than the 'Chronicle' , which I think is getting better at 'Cat coverage and gives the griz what I consider fair coverage.
Obviously the home town paper should give more in depth info such as player profiles, coaching perspectives, potential recruits, etc. than the opponent, but based on links provided by my Bobcat brethren I would have to pick the 'Tribune'.
