Is he going to be a Walter Payton candidate? If so, is MSU going to put together a campaign for him (web page, letters, etc)?

Is he even the best offensive player the Cats have?

If you're in a fantasy football league, do you take him,Ochs, or some other BSC qb (and the league is for some big money)?

1) No, he won't put up the stats that are required.

2) Maybe not, but I wouldn't say anyone is clearly better than him. Just to clarify, I say this because I think several other offensive players are extremely good, not because I think Lulay isn't that good.

3) Do I take Lulay in Fantasy Football? Probably not, but I also don't take Tom Brady in NFL Fantasy Football. Since you're asking I'd probably go with Ochs or Murrietta over Lulay if I was looking purely at stats. In real football, I'll take Lulay over either.

Well said MSU01. There are better statistical QBs in the Big Sky, but the intangibles and leadership abilities Lulay brings to the table far surpass any QB in the conference and are right up there with anyone in the nation.

To know this, all you have to do is watch the NAU game on "The Line" see how Travis carried the team in the 4Q, and see that lockeroom scene with verteran players like Montoya, Cordiero, Joey Thomas, Kane Ioane....singing "Lulay, Lulay Lulay"....keeping in mind our redheaded hero was only a sophomore.

1) Yes, he is the best all around leader on the offense

2) For fantasy I would take Meyer probably from EWU this year.

3) For fantasy I positively do not take Oches unless I have Lulay as the backup

As much as I like Lulay, I am very interested to see how Murietta handles himself this year. Sophomore hangover or superstar? I was extremely impressed with him last year. He seems to have the intangables that Lulay does, along with possibly more talent? Still wouldn't trade the red-headed houdini for him but am curious to see what he does this year...

The only times I've seen Lulay play was at the Cat-Griz games. I wasn't very impressed other than his lack of mistakes. Calm down however, I know he's a good quarterback, just not when I've seen him. He'll probably own all the qb records at MSU if not already.

If you havent seen Travis play CTOWM, then you really should treat yourself to a game in Bozeman. He wont thrill you with stats, but you will be extremely impressed with his command on the field. Then again, I fully believe Travis can get those "QB stats" if our offense asked it of him.

He will own all the Bobcat QB records by the end of this season though. Not that MSU has had all that much to brag about in that position other than Robbie Compson and Kelly Bradley.

How would the Cats do if Lulay were to get hurt?

The whole stat issue seems like it's an extremely disadvantageous argument against Travis. He put up amazing stats the second half of his freshman year, they would have been all america calibre if he had played the whole season. We talk so much about not being sugar coaters, well how bout this, our recievers sucked last year. Our main threat was a posession guy with limited talent but a huge heart. The rest had good talent but no toughness... This year those returning recievers are a little stronger and hopefully a lot meaner, and the addition of Gatewood and Guinn could mean two legit deep threats, like Hill and Adams two years ago.

I think Travis will have a very strong year statistically... 2500+ yards, 20+ TD's...

Great points, and I totally agree. I see a definite improvement in the receiving group, and an improved running game will halp also, which I think we'll have. I think Molock did a good job for us last year, but he was no Ryan Johnson. I think one of our 3 guys will emerge this year as the next Ryno. This depends on the progress of the O-Line though, of course.

Hear, hear... Bruce did a very commendable job, but his right shoulder (I think) was basically dead the whole second half of the season, therefore he couldn't really "shoulder" the workload you need to balance out that passing game. To back him up we had Mayfield who, in my opinion, was a very timid runner, and just couldn't get the job done. I agree that a stud horse in the backfield will do even more for our passing game this season.

Well, the receivers need to play like that, too. They know they're going to get crunched, so they might as well catch the ball while they're at it.
