Re: Conference Play
Honestly, I say Montana. I watched them play UW=Milwaukee last night, getting only their second loss of the season. These guys are good, and if Martin doesn't heave a 25 footer with 17 seconds, we win the game. These guys could win a tourney game against the right team.Kadeezy wrote:Okay gents, with Conference play starting on Thursday, how do you see things turning out? Pick a regular season champ.

Here is a poll I conducted awhile back. I'll take another one right before conference begings.

Had me confused for a few moments also. But I think you're probably pretty close on your predictions. If MSU learns how to play as a team, they'll be scary.Kadeezy wrote:Yeah, my bad, I should have said something
As always, it's going to come down to who can win on the road with any level of consistency.

The teams they end up playing on Saturday have just finished the road trip for he!! to Flagstaff on Thrusday. Its an adventure for teams to get there. THen thye have to do the trip in reverse to Sacramento. It's very draining and gives Sac St. an advantage but no one ever cared before because they were always so bad.Kadeezy wrote:What do you mean an edge with home games on Saturday? Don't all the teams have Saturday home games?
AZCat21 could probably vouch for this.
The devil made me do it the first time... the second time I done it on my own.

I would agree that the trip from Flagstaff to Sacramento is tough. If you go to Flag and play on thursday then you leave, drive 2 hours back to Phoenix get in at about 12:30-1am then get up at 5:30 to get on the only flight to sacramento. So you get into Sac with a poor nights rest and have to do a little shoot around practice session. Film on Friday night and then go to bed. Basically a bang-bang-bang trip because you are constantly either traveling or doing things to prepare for the game.
I believe that this trip was the reason why the conference went away with the friday/sat games.
Then when you get to Sac you also get to play against a very athletic team in a loud small gym.

Personally, I dont think there should be any excuse for college kids to be worn out with this road trip. If 18-22 year old bodies cant get rejuvenated in 2 days with one poor night of rest, then this team has some serious endurance problems.AZCAT21 wrote:I would agree that the trip from Flagstaff to Sacramento is tough. You might have a case when these games used to be Fri-Sat back to back... but even then

My excuse for the Cats woes in Sacramento... poor execution, poor preparation, poor coaching, sigh...

that's just harsh, man...you should do the trip and then you would know...remember to run a 10K before and after. I don't know if the physical part is even as hard as the mental part.Cat Pride wrote:Personally, I dont think there should be any excuse for college kids to be worn out with this road trip. Hey, I am not doubting this is a tough road trip, not one bit. But I dont like giving these guys an excuse a month before the trip has even been made.
Durham is the king of excuses and making the other team look like NCAA champs in his post game comments... besides that, he's got to be one of the worst road coaches in the conference the last 16+ years. Lets not give room for more excuses.
Is it a tough road trip... definitely. But MSU isnt the only team in conference that has to make this trip.
I can hear Mick now on the post game radio show after the Sac game.
"Sac is a great team, they came out and really competed. Those guards they have are something else, our defensive traps just werent closing quick enough tonight, and they really hit the open 3's when they had 'em. But this is a tough road trip, we are glad its over and can get back to the rest of conference play with this behind us. Nobody wants to come on this trip, even our fans in Bobcat Nation know how hard this trip is for us. Our goal was try and steal one on this road trip, unfortunately that didnt happen."

and no one said that msu was the only team that had to make the trip. the original post on this topic said that sac state had an edge playing on saturdayafter teams make that brutal trip. and vice-versa for nau on saturday games. how this once again got turned into a "mick is horrible, he makes too many excuses" post baffles me. i've said a hundred times that i am not always the biggest fan of mick, his style, his calls and so on. but some people lose credibility when they manage to turn every post into an anti-mick post. i remember a certain someone who went by multiple names who could turn every single post into a "bobby huack sucks and if you disagree you are a sugar-coater post." it gets old. and if you dont believe that the home team has an edge no matter where it is played, let alone after that journey between games, well....i think you're wrong!Cat Pride wrote:Hey, I am not doubting this is a tough road trip, not one bit.
