no branden miller?

Post by whitetrashgriz » Mon Dec 19, 2005 6:23 pm

i have been told that not only did we lose holmes, but those of us attending the game tonight won't see miller either. due to grades, and coaches decision, miller will no longer be a bobcat! sounds like durham will start, and jaquez(sp?) will no longer redshirt. sounds as if he may have been a cancer to the team a little although i can't say that for sure. what i can say for sure is he is done!

and i wonder if ryan knew this information? i don't know what his story was, or if the two are related, but it seems to me that rather then taking a kids redshirt away, holmes would have had to been the next option, right? could be interesting!

My guess is it had to be grades. What other reason would cause a senior to be gone right after finals? I'm also guessing that it factored in his play against Wyoming. I sure guess a lot- just MHO).

Oh well-a little revolution every now and then is a healthy thing. Miller was capable of winning a game or two by himself if he was hot. But he didn't have it this season. Too bad for the kid-I hope everything works out for him.

Stability U marches on with yet another distraction.

Hopefully the players can make up for losing one of the more athletic players on the roster.

I heard, by rumor, that Branden Miller was academically ineligible and was booted off of the team. Jacques Wilson did well in his debut, and Edmonds stepped up. Miller seems like he's been a bit of a problem. And I always hate to see an athlete academically ineligible. They're being paid to go to school and they should take advantage of the wonderful opportunity to go to school and not have to pay for it. I know lots of people who do very well in school not getting enough money from the institution they attend to cover the costs. Excuse my personal opinion, but I've paid my own way through school thus far and I don't appreciate it when I hear the news that an athlete who is getting paid to go to school can't keep up at a minimum level and people like me work our tails off to get hardly any money from schools. But I hope whatever Branden decides to do now goes well for him.

GO CATS!

What does this do to our scholarship numbers for the future with this new NCAA rule that you have to graduate specific numbers of your team? Losing Holmes and Miller not only hurts the team today, but could be detrimental to the future team as well with this new rule.

During his postgame chat with Coach Durham, Kris Atteberry alluded to the fact that Miller could have kept playing into January, presumably until the start of the new semester, if the Cats had allowed him to do so. Can anyone explain how this works and how it relates to the Grizzlies' mysterious inter-session which conveniently allows Grizzly basketball players to repair fall semester grade problems? At any rate, I respect Coach Durham for having the integrity to strictly enforce the rules. The Cats played a tough gritty game last night, and I congratulate them on their exciting victory.

UM has their infamous " intersession" between mid-December and Mid January, where students can take additional classes for college credit. Becuase of the compressed time frame you are limited to the amount of credits you can take. but if you need to pick up a extra 4 credits you should be able to find something. There is debate as to how tough the actual classes are. I hear the upper level classes can be a b*tch. I have also heard that some of the lower level core classes are perfect class for the intersession. Example woman who worked with my soon to ex-wife took a 100 level self motivated math class but got a D. She took the same class and basically took one test every two days and beefed it up to a B. Montana State has no intersesion. If you flunk out in the fall your best hope is to have one of your low grades registered as an incomplete and try to improve it at the begining of the nest semester. - BTW this incomplete trick has been used by coaches for years and I believe the NCAA is looking to put a stop to it.

Durham could use the loss of both Miller and Holmes to his advantage if they do poorly because now, they aren't supposed to be good....Once again I don't like this situation, we lose a ton of players each year, this is getting old. But this could also be a blessing in disguise because now Durham won't be able to sub in and out as freeely as he used to! Wait and see how the team does...

It might have to do with his specific grades...if he failed two or three or maybe even four classes, it would be better to cut him loose now.

De javu
Now the team won't be able to depend on the hired 3-shooters as much.
This could be a VERY good situation for the team.
You always hate to lose kids to any situation, but last year they stepped up following the loss of Brown.
Let's hope for the same.

Go CATS!

I want to be a head college basketball coach, and I want loyal to be my boss. That way, nothing that any player ever did, no display of poor play by the team, no amount of turnover in players, and no levels of non-graduation of my players would ever count against me. That would be the best gig on earth ... as long as I didn't read message boards that had any other opinions about me.

You know, you don't get F's in the last days of a semester. If he was failing, he should have had his hand held to class, and if not attending, he should have been gone a month ago.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.
