I saw this in the Gt. Falls Tribune article:

Kramer says 2006 won't be a rebuilding year for his program, which has enjoyed four consecutive winning seasons.

I wonder what eastcoastgriz has to say about this one!!

It isn't realistic to expect any new Bobcat quarterback to make fans forget Lulay, who offered a running-passing threat and was often at his best with the game on the line in the fourth quarter.

"It's not the athletic part we're going to miss," Kramer said. "It's the cerebral part. It's making quick decisions, firm decisions, that are exactly in line with what we want. We don't necessarily need a big, strong-armed quarterback, but we need the right quarterback who can make the right decisions as quickly as possible."


The QB for the future is going to have to have poise more than power it looks like. It sounds like a Carpenter/Rolovich battle to be sure.

Short passes if they stay with what they have - However, I believe we already have Wheaton from UNLV - Good speed and will go long.
Would expect two or three other speed guys. They have short receivers already in Lulay and others). So I don't think it will be only short passes.

As for Desin, you never say the kid doesn't have a chance to start (especially before he signs the LOI). He will have a uphill fight not being here this spring. The first game starter will probably come out of this spring.

Interesting article. So why no mention of QB Rick Coppack?

I heard via the grapevine that Coppock may leave the program. Probably just a rumor, take it for its whats worth.

Great article, I am very excited about next years team. May have one of the most balanced teams that the Cats have had in decades.

Am I reading the article wrong or do they mean that Saucedo will play center? I figured Verlanic would be getting the nod at center and Lou would take the spot of Fig.

An offensive line that returns starters Brant Birkeland, Joe Hirst and Peder Jensen could be a team strength. Massive Louis Saucedo has been moved from the defensive line back to offense and will replace Bolton, and second-team all-league tight end Elliott Barnhart leads a trio of veterans who return at that all-important position.

More than likely, that is based on the fact that Jeff began the season as a guard then moved. Lou is probably too tall to be a center. That big body would clog up alot of passing lanes

God I hope he was just making a point - a sort of Kramerism - about the 7 receivers. There are other positions as well that could use a few backups and we don't need to be 3 varsity deep at every receiver spot. Half of our new signees as transfer receivers doesn't bode too well for the future. I still like the idea of recruiting freshman and developing them instead of getting transfers. If you get players that only give you 1 or 2 years they are coming to play for themselves for the most part. These aren't the kind of people who become lifelong MSU ambassadors and financial contributors. A few for sure - but not 7.

I want no more than 3 WR transfers. I want to see some of the younger guys develop... Mike Brown, Derek Green, etc.

Also, I like how Kramer made it sound like it is Carpenter's job to lose. I want to see him suceed.

All in all, I have a quiet confidence that we might win the Sky next year and surprise people who think we don't stand a chance without Lulay.

I would say that he is correct, that the cats have had 4 consecutive winning seasons.

maybe, but we dont want to say so yet. first we will talk a bunch of crap about making a run at a national championship. then we'll bash the griz for a while and tell them how much we own them. then, after a few losses in the middle of the season, we'll make excuses for whatever part of the team is playing poorly whether it be offense, defense, special teams or a combination of the three. we'll have excuses already lined up such as inexperience at qb, key losses in our defense, and poor coaching. once those get overplayed, we'll pull out the "rebuilding" card to make a final excuse for our teams poor play. did i miss anything?

Yeah, you missed injuries and poor field conditions!

I'm still anxious to see younger Lulay in action. Actually surprised that he hasn't seen the field much. There were a couple times when the starters weren't performing well and you'd think Kramer would have thrown him in there for a few plays. If nothing else - for the fresh legs, speed and Lulay to Lulay novelty appeal... Don't think he would have hurt us and he just may have caught fire. I hope he works his way into a starting spot in 06 because there's obviously some kind of winning mojo in the Lulay blood.

I forgot about Lulay, definately throw him into the mix as well.

My dream play was a Lulay to Lulay pass, catch................touchdown Lulay!!!! Play the Lulay song as the crowd goes wild.
