2006 Football Schedule
Has anyone seen any confirmed dates, places and opponents besides University of Colorado on Setpember 2nd?

The Griz schedule may give us some insight. I think MSU usually plays a team the week before or after UM. I've also heard that UC Davis is coming here on either the 9th or 16th of September. I've also heard that the bye week will be right before Cat-Griz. Here's my guess to the MSU schedule. It's only a guess, so don't think of this as the official word.
9/2-at Colorado (for sure)
9/9-UC Davis
9/16-at Sacramento St.*
9/23-Portland St.*
9/30-Eastern Washington*
10/7-at Northern Arizona*
10/14-Weber St.*
10/21-at Idaho St.*
10/28-home vs. I-AA opponent TBA
11/4-Northern Colorado*
11/11-Bye
11/18-at Montana* (for sure-listed on UM Athletics Website)

According to the sports nuts today, UC Davis isn't for sure, it sounds like we may play Davis or possibly another I-A team. Also, we may schedule a d-II team as well.
It would seem to me that instead of playing Davis, we may add another I-A team, and if we are allowed a 12th game, we may add a D-II team during the bye week.
****In no way am I sure of any of this. This information came from the sports nuts, and my imagination. ****

I would be really disappointed if we played two 1-A teams. After this year's schedule backfiring on us I would think that scheduling two 1-A games would help ensure another uphill battle to the playoffs…wbtfg wrote:According to the sports nuts today, UC Davis isn't for sure, it sounds like we may play Davis or possibly another I-A team.

I would be suprised if we played two I-A opponents in 2006. I thought our schedule for 2005 was a good one. If we had played Fort Lewis College and Central Washington we would not have been in the top 20 of IAA all season. I think the Bobcats need to continue to play top 20 I-AA programs and we need to win those games. Playing lesser oponents isn't going to help you get to and win in the playoffs.
I know Kramer expressed frustrations about the seasons outcome and the roll the schedule had in it. I just hope we don't go back to the DIV II games.

Given the choice, I'll take one D-II opponent or even an NAIA opponent if it means the 'Cats don't have to play two 1-A teams. I'd prefer a 1-AA opponent as well, but if it can't happen, I think MSU would be crazy to play two 1-A teams.longhorn_22 wrote:I would also be very pissed if we have to play two I-A opponents next year. I think that a DII school is ok, but I would rather have and all I-AA schedule besides the I-A game.
Look at what happened to Portland State this season. They were good enough to win the Big Sky IMO, but you have to think that playing at Oregon State and at Boise State adversely affected their overall season.

UC Davis is going to be VERY GOOD next season.
I was looking at their roster earlier in the season and they are losing at most 2 key guys on offense and 1 on defense.
Are they playoff eligible next season? If so, I would put them in the same boat Cal Poly was in 2004; they may very well go 8-3 (or better) but go begging for an invite to the playoffs due to a lack of noteriety/familiarity.

Grizzlies: 2-5 when it matters most

They did and got clobbered in both games.CelticCat wrote:I believe App State played two IAs this year.
Of course. they also won the autobid from the Southern Conference so it is a moot point in terms of making the playoffs. I do wonder if a 7-4 App State would have received an at-large bid.
Also, App State is clearly a much better team this season than anyone in the Big Sky. That said, by playing two 1-A teams they left themselves a razor-thin margin of error once conference play started.

This is where you are wrong. If we never played OSU, we would have made the playoffs. The playoff committe looks at wins first, and after that who knows!!! If we played a team that we should be able to beat, our record would have been the same as the Griz. 8-3. We would have gone to the playoffs before the Griz.bobcat92 wrote: Playing lesser oponents isn't going to help you get to and win in the playoffs.

I think that's what Kramer's veiw is also after he found out that the number of wins is what the committee looks at not who you play.PapaG wrote:Given the choice, I'll take one D-II opponent or even an NAIA opponent if it means the 'Cats don't have to play two 1-A teams. Catatac-you are stating something that does not make sense. The Cats will not travel to a DII school, so claiming they should have played Fort Lewis rather than Cal Poly or OSU is a non-issue; it could not happen. Games with Poly or OSU could only have been rescheduled with another DI opponent. If you would have scheduled Fort Lewis, you could only have done so if you did not play NDSU or SF Austin.catatac wrote:Exactly. That's not true. All we had to do was find someone who was willing to come here and play. We could play every OOC game at home if we so choose. But, we played OSU due to the $$$ thing. We played Cal Poly because we CHOSE to honor our contractual agreement with them; unlike another team I know.

The Great Falls Trib says this morning, in an article with Kramer, that we have Div 2 Adams State on the schedule - at Home.
