Basketball recruits and others
I thought I might update those who are interested in the early progress of some of our basketball recruits.
Travis Derochowski: With four games under their belt his Western Mennonite School team is 4-0 on the season. He is now listed at 6-10. He scored 14, 16 , 22, and 23 in the first four games which is pretty amazing considering Western Mennonite has won the games by an average 30 points and Travis's has seen limited action. Mennonite also has a very talented 6-8 junior who transfer in after playing on the top ranked 4A team the last couple years. He is averaging about 15 points. Mennonite is a private 2a school (size wise about the size of a larger Montana B school) Travis is also averaging about 10 rbs and a few blocks.
Cory Davis's West Salem team is a 4A (highest Oregon Classification) is 3-1 after losing their first Game of the season. Davis did not play well in that game but is averaging about 20 points a game. He is playing about 50 / 50 between shooting Guard and Point Guard this year after playing mostly point his first 3 years. In preseason polls he was picked either first team or second team all state. When you look at the the other players on the all state team you are looking at a lot of pac-10 players and future ACC players.
Anthony Jones: Anthoney Jones started the season injured and did not play until the fourth game in the season. I think the injury was a badly pulled hamstrig. Jones I have been told , will be the most athletic 6-7, the Bobcats have had on campus in a very long time. He is also a Plumber type of physical players (with out the bulk though). I have not seen any stats since mid November, but at that time he was still tring to get back into swing of thing and was adveraging about 8 points a game in limited playing time.
A few players of Bobcat interest.
PJ Owsley: PJ started the season coming off the bench, but by the third game of the season was starting at a forward spot. He is the third leading scorer at SLCC with 11.5 PPG (the leading scorer is at 12.3 ppg ) and 2nd in rebounding at about 8 rpg (again the top is about 9 rbs). SLCC is currently undefeated, and is a little bit of a surprise this year. They were ranked last year in the top 20, much of the season but was expected to be down this year I think they may be close to being ranked again. I believe PJ 's recruiting stock is rising very quickly.
Durham was very interested in 6-8 Tommy Craddock of the Washington, as a high school senior last year, but he did not have the grades to go D-1. He is currently leading North Idaho Community College In scoring, and rebounding. He will be highly recruited but will have to spend 2 years at a JC.
There are also a couple small forwards we were real close to signing before changing our recruiting priorities. One has started a couple games for South Idaho CC (but is struggling with a high ankle sprain) the other is Starting for Dixie Community College (second in scoring and rebounding)

Nice analysis yet again, mslacat. PJ Owsley is an interesting case because I think he could end up coming back here again. I think Durham has shown some interest and the time in Utah gave him a chance to clean up his life a little bit. And personally, I would love to see Owsley reunited with Dissly on the basketball court, this of course coming from someone who graduated with these two guys. So I think there'd be some interest in having PJ return.

A kid can verbal anytime, the point guard who signed this fall with Arizona verballed with them his 8th grade year. All it does is say that the school who offered has to honor their offer and the kid could if he/ she wants change there mind later and not sign. The student/ athlete is not completely committed until they sign the letter of intent.
A lot of D - 1 school are looking to sign good kids their junior year that way they have their recruiting done and the kid can relax and play.
In the Howard situation all I have heard is that some Pac- 10 schools are interested but need to see him play this winter. Maybe the Griz or Cats are trying to lock him up before the out of state schools can get on him.
Saw him play this weekend he has really matured did not have the huge scoring numbers this week 11, and 14 but really handles the double teams and pressure well. Passes exceptionally well out of pressure defense and defensively did a nice on Capital's big guys Bignell and O'Connell. He looks a little taller and a lot stronger.
Probably a 3 or 4 position in college.
Can't go this Friday but it should be a good one in Butte Civic Center.

Great posting!! I agree. I think it would be great to have the opportunity to see PJ get a second chance!PJ Owsley is an interesting case because I think he could end up coming back here again. Good luck PJ... hope to see ya back in Bozeman!!

From what I hear the other Big Sky school with a VERY good chance to land PJ is Weber. I believe PJ's best game as a Bobcat came against Weber a few years back and they remembered. They have been in constant touch/recruiting with PJ since he enroled at SLCC. With BJ's new found comfort zone in Utah, and Weber very interested, I think they also could be a logical choice if he does not go WAC or Pac-10 type school.

This is true.... but if he had a girlfriend or something else like that in Utah...... I am just pointing out that after two years he may have set down some roots... maybe not. I have heard he does enjoy where he is at , more than Bozeman? You would have to ask someone who knows PJ better than I.MSUCATS wrote:Wouldn't it be logical if he wanted to play infront of his friends and family who live in Bozeman, to play at Montana State??could be a logical choice

I liked Owsley's game when he was here even though he was just a freshman. I would like to see him come back. The impression I have from various past posts, however, is that maybe the Bobcats are no longer interested. Does anyone out there know if Coach Durham is still interested in Owsley? If Owsley doesn't come back, I guess Weber would be better than the Grizzlies.

I will post a link to the season box score for Salt lake Community College Below. This way anyone can check up as they wish in the future. To that extent since I have posted this thread PJ has now moved up to be SLCC's leading scorer, and they have also lost their first game of the eason to North Idaho CCCatGrad00 wrote:MSUCATS wrote:Anyone have any stats on PJ this year?PJ Owsley !!
