We Land UNLV Reciever Wheaton...
As per the Tribune this morning.
" Donell Wheaton, a 6 ft, 185 -pound wide reciever who letters three years at UNLV, said Tuesday he will transfer to Montana State for his senior season.
Wheaton caught 30 passes for 381 yards and three touchdowns this season. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 248 yards, averaging 21 yards per return. He had none receptions and 137 yards recieving in UNLV's season opening 24-22 loss to New Mexico, but his playing time diminished down the stretch.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Wheaton was suspended for UNLV's Nov.12 game at Texas Christian for breaking team rules.
Wheaton is a 2002 graduate of Narboone High in Harbor City, Calif., where he was a star running back and reciever."
Sorry guys, no internet post yet, but that is the latest recruit coming our way.

After a quick browsing of the UNLV forum, here are a few poster quotes:
"Addition by substraction. We get rid of two underperforming players, free up two more schollies for Sanford to fill, get more PT for the freshmen (now soph) WR's."
"...while Wheaton had great skill. The young WRs seem a bit overrated to me though they had spots. Estandia, Kirkland and Wheaton allowed them to have some success as teams didn't game plan them."
"Both kids were lazy and Donnell had a terrible attitude."
"The speed and skill of those WRs will be missed with such a hard schedule. Not to mention the physical maturity."
They have a new coach who is more or less cleaning house. Sounds like the kid might have a bit of work ethic problems, but UNLV was in complete disarray a couple years ago.

Don't worry about it. Kramer is good at handling problem cases and letting them go if appropriate. Most teams do not discuss what rules were broken because they handle their own business and don't need help. Also, I'm sure Kramer covered this before the scholarship was offered. His program has been clean and he has a great reputation on handling issues.bobcatmaniac wrote: Having trouble finding out what team rules he broke. Just hope he isn't a trouble maker.
That last thing a kid needs is people asking him over and over.

Sounds like the kid has some serious talent. Will make all the other players better by spreading the field out. Looking forward to seeing him on the field.CelticCat wrote:http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/ ... 32733.html
UNLV had only two wins. One against Idaho and one against SDSU. The one against SDSU was blown by SDSU, UNLV did not win it, they got lucky.
It sounds like they didn't have a QB or a plan to get anyone the ball consistently.

We should have played UNLV in non-conference instead of Cal Poly!BobcatLionFan wrote:Sounds like the kid has some serious talent. Will make all the other players better by spreading the field out. "Wheaton may be a pretty good receiver for you guys. He does have some good speed but he never was really able to get many yards after a catch.
His strength is fading to the ball, but he struggles to fight for a ball. If it came down to a jump ball he usually didn't give much effort to fight for it. I think that was one thing that frustrated Coach Sanford about Wheaton.
He does have good hands when he is open.
I think in your league he may develop into a decent player. But the top teams in our conference had little trouble shutting him down. He was never a real threat to anyone. We have some stronger, more playmaker-type WRs that were all true freshman this year. I think Wheaton saw the writing on the wall and moved out.
I wish him well and will be interested seeing how his senior year goes."
from a poster on their board in response to my inquiry.
