Basketball against Carroll
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I just tuned in and we are only winning by 2 points with 4 minutes to play? Are we really that bad? If this keeps up it will be a long season. I can't even believe we can play this bad.

We are down by 5 with under 3 left. If we lose... wow.

I'll agree it was a very dissapointing win, but Carroll is a very, very good NAIA squad (final four last year). They played the game of the year for themselves, and almost took one to us.

I didn't. Durham is not a good basketball coach. Ta-da!! He never has been, but at good ol' (boy) MSU, he lives on and on and on and on. The only time they win is if there are natural leaders on the court doing his job for him, otherwise it's a bust. '96 had Lollis, Erickson and the big European in '02(?). They led by example while Mick stuttered-and-stammered in the huddle.rtb wrote:LOL....I promised not to say anything until after the season. It is killing me!!!spider wrote:I'll give you one guess!!

I have to say that was a freakin sweet shot at the buzzer. And the play before that, Al Beye slammed in an awesome dunk off of a rebound. We played good the first half and then played like complete crap the rest of the game. I have to give it to Carroll. They can shoot the three with the best of them. #32 for the Saints is an excellent player. Congrats to the Cats and to Carroll on a good showing.

just got back from the game- couple things to say... props to carrol they are a very very good team this year, they should have won. Jefferson, hell of a shot, that was awesome. Okay, now I have been saying this every time i get a chance......... PLEASE.... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD..... FIRE COACH DURHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care if we fire him tomorrow and the players get to coach themselves for the rest of the season, they would probably be better! Can I get an AMEN here?!? The team that is picked to win the big sky should have just lost to an NAIA school at home! I have hated durham with a passion for the last 5 years, please, please, please, please, can we get rid of him after this season!

Just got back from the game. I'm not exactly sure how it was so close. We out shot them, out rebounded them, and I think we probably won the turnover battle.
Defensively we played pretty well...Carroll was just playing lights out on offense.
As for our offense, it is clear to me that our team is currently lacking a floor leader. Carroll had a great leader (guy from Turkey) and good role players. It seems like we have a court full of very good role players w/o a floor general. I think this is a big reason for a lot of our turnovers and confusion on offense.
We actually shot the ball pretty well...over 50% for FGs as well as from behind the arc
The only thing that they killed us on was hustle. They got every loose ball, and a lot of rebounds. We came out fired up, and went up by about 12 early, then we put it in cruise control until about the last 2 minutes or so when we were down by five.
If we can somehow figure out how to get fired up stay focused for 40 minutes we will be a very good team....
Now, let the doom and gloom and "Fire Mick" comments continue.

78-75, MSU went on a 8-0 run in the last 2 minutes with a buzzer 3 by Jefferson. The MSU "offense" was in rare form tonight.blgscats wrote:MSU-B was being aired in Billings, so we were trying to listen to the game over the internet, not good with a dial-up. What was the final score? I would like to think Durham would wake up soon!! If he is going to let his son shoot 3's maybe he should teach him how to make em.

i think that if we wouldn't have started our season so horrible, many would be singing a different tune. if we were like 6-0 and played the same game tonight, all anyone would talk about is how awesome that carroll played. but because we are struggling, we just assume that once again we played like ******. carroll is a great team, and let's be honest, they couldn't miss. cat's are playing well as a team, and for people who may not have been watching closely, mick made some great adjustments throughout the second half. call for his head all you want, he is a smart coach. on that note, i think turcott is one of the best in the state. that man knows basketball. good win for the cats. great game for carroll. and their fans were great too. lets stay on track cats.

One thing that Carroll has always done better than maybe any other team I've ever seen is move without the ball. They have 2 or 3 guys that work very hard to get open shot...Jeff Hayes reminded me of Reggie Miller tonight. He was constantly working to get open.
Once again, great job to Carroll, and I hope everyone will reserve their judgement of this team and Durham until conference season starts.

When I heard the stats at the half and again at the end of the game I had the same thought. We shot a high percentage from the field-including from the three, we outrebounded them, and we had 15 turnovers which usually isn't too bad. I think the problem was we had stupid turnovers. In the first half Brandon Miller was dribbling the ball chest high and his brain was off in la la land and the kid guarding him was picking him clean. We kept trying to lob it to Ted "hands of stone" Morris, and Al looked like he was swatting at a fly instead of catching the ball. Carroll extended their zone way out and didn't respect us inside. Marvin Moss had to have his worst game as a Bobcat.wbtfg wrote:Just got back from the game. I'm not exactly sure how it was so close. How'd the griz let Hayes get a way? He's a good player. Durham kept trying to put a trap on and Carroll would just rotate it to Hayes, who was constantly unguarded, for a wide open three. It took us well into the second half to finally figure out we can't leave him wide open like that. Their other guy, #32 from Turkey, just went off on us. He probably won't have a game like that all year. And Travis Williams from Three Forks completely outworked our inside guys all night. Yet another Montana basketball player who didn't get a sniff from Durham in high school getting the better of our junior college guys.
What's the difference between a top NAIA team and a not-so-good NCAA D-1 team? About 3 points.
