A good "Person"

I hear that Mike Person a 6-4, 260-lb tackle from Glendive has verbally committed to MSU. Apparently he was also recruited by the Grizzlies, but wanted to stay in "State" instead. That makes the score MSU 2, UM 1 in recruiting Montana guys... I guess this makes UM, Cal State-Missoulafornia.

Not to rain on your parade, but I'm pretty sure Montana has two in-state recruits already.

Bender and Selle for the Griz
Desin and maybe Person for the Cats
Does anyone have any sort of actual article or news spot on this. I hope it's true as this would be a great get for the cats.

Does anyone really know which instate kids MSU and UM are after? The list is probably similar but not exactly the same. I assume that the Cats are after Desin (obviously) and Selle, Verlanic, Person, Larson. Any guesses on who else?

Hate to say it, but it's actually three. WR Tony Kazmierczak of Thompson Falls has also committed to play at UM.

This would be a great signing for the Cats. I think we also have to get Larson from Cut Bank. I actually think we will since Selle has committed to UM. My "dream", if you will, for the next few years is this. I see Larson starting when Carpenter leaves, if not before, and I think we can continue to build a nucleus around him with excellent Montana talent.

Yeah, just having a little fun with it. Oh well, maybe it was 1-0 at one point. If Desin was the first to sign anywhere.

Being an old Glendive boy, this is great news. Old man Person must have taught his son well. Lets see if this kid can be a pro like his old man.

This is from the Billings Gazette:
Person to play for Bobcats
GLENDIVE - Mike Person of Glendive has given a verbal commitment to play football at Montana State.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Person was a two-time Class A all-state selection and three-time all-Eastern A selection at offensive tackle for Glendive's Dawson County High School.
Person also earned all-conference honors at defensive end this season, though he said he'll likely play offensive tackle for MSU.
Person said he expects to redshirt for the Bobcats next fall.

Good get, Kramer! I've heard good things about this kid.

Excellent news. Now we need Larson and I will feel more complete with our recruitng class in the state.

One more quote on Person.
"Glendive's Person commits to Cats; Selle headed to UM
From Tribune wires
GLENDIVE — Offensive lineman Mike Person, a 6-foot-5, 250-pounder, said Wednesday he will accept a scholarship offer to play football at Montana State.
Person, son of longtime Dawson County High prep football coach Jim Person, said he was also recruited by the Montana Grizzlies and received a scholarship offer from the Wyoming Cowboys. Person, a Class A first-team All-State offensive lineman and second-team All-State defensive end, is also a basketball player and state champion discus thrower at Glendive.
"I liked the way they treated me," Person said of the Bobcats. "I feel like I know their coaches on a first-name basis."

Sounds like a great pick.

I liked this part of the Chronicle's article:
He was also interested in Wyoming and Montana.
Person did not make any official visits to any schools, but did attend Montana State’s 20-17 over North Dakota State in September.
This kid was a Bobcat from day one. He didn't even need to think about it! This is a huge signing for the Cats. I have heard only good things about this kid. Even the Griz will have to admit they wanted him (they keep denying they ever wanted Desin

).
We have signed two of the four biggest names in the state. Now if we get Larsen then we got three of the biggest four! I like those numbers!

I would say we have two of the five...don't forget about Verlanic on your list.

Yeah and you could add Savage to the list, but I didn't... Those were my top four. There sure are a lot of other guys I would like see on the Cats' roster next year, but I was just making the list short and sweet.

Selle - UM
Desin - MSU
Verlanic - ?>
Bender - UM
Person - MSU
Larsen - ??

My sources, good or bad, say that Savage is not being recriuted hardly at all. Source #1 the, good source, says he really isn't "into" football, it was more of a thing for him to do in the fall until the ski hill's open up. The other source says he isn't being recruited very much because he is to small, I have trouble believing that when you have the speed that he does. There have been and will be alot of small fast guys make an impact in 1AA football.
Source 1 says that the griz and cats have both asked him to walk on but niether offered any money. I think they feel he needs to prove he is committed to the program.

Except for Verlanic, hope we keep our recruiting east of the divide. that's where the real hard-nosed, tough kids play. Just look at a 15 year history of Montana HS State titles (Sans Drummond).

Mike Person will be a huge asset to the Bobcats! He has a very solid understanding of the game and has great phisical attributes. He has a frame that will allow an additional 30+ pounds and he has great feet. He is a good athlete which was demonstrated by his winning the class A discus last spring.
