The Bobcat Nation

I have heard whispers that a facilities upgrade fundraiser was coming soon at MSU, but I haven't heard any announcements yet. Does anyone have any insight. I think now would be a great time to rally the troops to put our money where our mouths are to upgrade the stadium and move on to the next phase of building the Bobcat program.

I'd be more than happy to give some of my tuition money to the cause.
One suggestion I do have is, when spring comes, they could water the grass on campus 3 days a week rather than everyday to save some money on the water bill. I'm sure that would raise enough money.

Remember though, every other year we'll need to budget for the one week of excessive watering needed to prepare the Bobcat Stadium turf for the Grizzle.

I was talking about the entire campus. There is so much wasting of money everywhere. Especially watering the campus grass, which is what I was referring to.

I think the college students get a free pass on the "money where mouth is" until they get a chance to graduate and get a good job with their excellent MSU education. Your time will come ... and then the heavy guilt trips will hit you just like the rest of us.

There will be no guilt trip. We waste so much money on things this university doesn't need to be spending money on. Not to mention tuition, we have to pay for EVERY little thing on campus. That should be part of tuition. Sorry if this is getting off topic. Well not really.

I actually want to give money to add to the football stadium. I would be more than happy to.

Or they could just stop watering the sidewalks so much and try to line the sprinklers up so they hit mainly grass. That always drove me crazy to see sprinklers covering the sidewalks. Doesn't anyone know how to align them?

Yep. Their sprinkler systems are terribly designed, and they don't re-adjust the heads. If they would pay me, I would do it. Hell, I did it all summer. At least they used Rain-Bird heads.....

Another thing that needs to stop is the resurfacing of the parking lots EVERY YEAR. That is friggen rediculous.

Not to mention how flippin soggy the grass is all the damn time.

Back on subject; I am really surprised that the athletic department didn't start their facilities upgrade program already. The reason that I say this is because Congress has passed the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act (KETRA), which is a temporary tax break that allows individual taxpayers that give cash gifts by the end of the year to deduct 100% instead of 50% of their adjusted gross incomes.

Simply put, if a donor contributes $50,000 in cash, the entire amount may be claimed as a deduction, up from a 50% limit from previous legislation. This temporary elimination of the 50%-of-AGI limit on charitable gifts of individuals applies to ANY charitable contributions from August 28 to December 31, 2005, even gifts unrelated to hurricane Katrina.

I would think that this would have increased the amount that people would have donated to the facilities upgrade program, and this was truly a missed opportunity.
