I was watching a copy of The Line, the documentary about the 2003 season, and had forgotten about Coach O'brien and the drug bust.
Whatever happened with that? Was there a trial, did he plead guilty?

He plead guilty and got some prison time. I don't remember the sentence, though.

I can't remember exactly how much time he got, but whatever it was, it wasn't enough. I will never forgive OB for what he did, and I still believe the impact of his arrest is only just now starting to fade off our program.

He is doing time Federally.
There is a good story behind it that if I have time later in the day I'll share.

Pretty sure it was a 4 year sentence.

He had a plea agreement all set up where he would plead guilty and provide information in exchange for a lighter sentence but then changed attorney's at the last minute. This attorney decided he didn't like the plea and could get a better deal so told prosecutors he was not going to plead guilty. Prosecutors said fine and then informed OB that their plea was no longer on the table and that he was being charged Federally on a Conspiracy case.
I think the four years is correct in the State case and I haven't heard final outcome of the Federal case.
Anyway, he screwed himself, but as Al Pacino said in The Scent of a Woman, "BUT HE'S NOT A SNITCH."

I guess he had another charge while coaching a few years before this:

Yes...that is old news.
However, looking at that website I saw the name of Shem Hardnette.
I swore that during the Portland State Game, I saw a guy with this name playing for the Vikings. I looked at the PSU website and found him

Does anyone know if this is the same Hardnette from a few years ago? What's the story here?

Why are we still talking about O'Brien? He should be the farthest thing from our minds.

PDX,
Do you know the story behind how he ended up at PSU? I see he went to a JC after he got kicked out of MSU...how did he do? Is he playing well at PSU?....Just curious.

I really don't understand the fascination with these losers ESPECIALLY O'Brien. That F*&@@% singlehandedly damned near destroyed our University. The shame, humility, embarrassement and consternation that loser inflicted onto the entire MSU family is in no way excusable or defensible. PERIOD. O'Brien's name, photos of him and memories of him need to be permanently destroyed/deleted from everything MSU. May he rot in hell.

Yea, Steelhead, don't sugar coat it, but I agree with you 100%. Hopefully this thread will die a quick death.

O"brien screwed up but come on he couldn't ruin the University all by himself, if he did then its surprising to me that we have beaten the griz and won the big sky so many times since his F up. Anyway let your anger go no need in hating someone for this long even if he is a complete arse. I say pray for him cause he needs help!
