Talmage catch

Post by grizband » Mon Nov 21, 2005 1:37 am

Does anyone remember that catch that Talmage had the series after the "punt recovery" debacle? (sorry I can't remember the quarter) The one where they called it a dropped pass, even though from the replay it looked like a catch. My roomate thought that it was a makeup call for the refs calling the punt recovery Griz ball (we both thought we got away with that one). My question is, did anyone at the game get a better view and have an opinion on whether this should have been ruled a catch or not?

From my perspective I think it hit the ground just before he got it in his arms. I could be wrong, but it looked like it was incomplete.

From the replay on my TiVo it looked like he caught it right before it hit the ground, then as the ball hits the ground it jars loose of his grasp and is alone in the mud before talmage falls on it and momentum rotates him onto his back... at that point the ball started rolling down his thigh before he quickly grabbed it again and held it up like he had caught it.

If that makes any sense... it all happened in the blink of an eye.

I thought it was complete, and the replay was too crappy to be of any help (bad angle, lighting, speed, etc). Anyone who has the tape or saw it again last night know?? I also thought it was a make-up call, but no matter.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Yeah, I wasn't meaing to say that had he made the catch we would have won. I just wondered what people thought.

IMO, any time a player jumps up with the ball like that and waves it around in the air, he's probably doing it because he knows he didn't catch it. It looked incomplete from my viewpoint as well.

I had a fair angle looking into the play... and it was a tough call to make either way. I thought it may have been a catch but it seemed the way Talmage reacted the ground may have helped him. It could be the officials blew both the punt call and the catch call.

I think that is most likely what happened.

Not that it matters- But the punt call was that he was blocked into it. I dont think I care if it was right or wrong. THE GRIZ Sucked on Saturday.

Since we are talking about questionable calls... I thought Lulay was in on that 4 and 1 play. How did it look on TV?

When they went for the touchdown? It didn't look like he got it to me.
