There's talk that Washington State QB, Jr. Josh Swooger(6-5 255) is looking to transfer to either MSU or EWU. He's from Youngstown, Ohio and YSU may make the playoffs(8-3) but have a pretty good QB in Soph. Tom Zetts. It is said by many he is better than current QB Alex Brink and does have starting experience until breaking his leg last season. Even though he's a RSSr. next year it worked for EWU when Blankenship came in for just a year while a young Meyer matured...

If we got Andrew Selle, Mark Desin, and Larson from Cut Bank, it would be nice to have them learn the system a little bit. But I think Cory Carpenter is capable of handling the Bobcat offense. He looked good when he went in, but that was against the scrubs, of course. Maybe...MSU seems to do well with Washington State transfers.

i hope we get him...very rare can we get a qb with his pedigree

Hey, TE coach Jeremy Thielbahr has some big time WSU connections. In fact, he probably not only knows Swooger, he may have recruited him!

I'd rather go with Carpenter or Coppack than get someone for one year. Our OB's don't worry me our WR's next year do.

We need to stop getting one-year wonders. They do not have the time nor the commitment to succeed. It only discourages the younger kids from working hard to get that starting spot

Dudez, stay away... the Cougs have been horrible, and Swogger couldn't even make the starting lineup with this buncha humps. You're better off with your system guys, guaranteed.

With redshirt sophomores as backups, we have at least 2 years left with these guys who know the system. If we do not give them a chance, why would any good potential young quarterback ever want to come to MSU. They have not had to get into games because of lulay's durability so lets give them a chance.

WSU isn't that bad...they have lost several close games and have the best RB in the nation. Their current QB has had moments of greatness.

Completely agree. I think we are in good hands with Carpenter/Coppack. In fact, if we get Selle/Desin/Larson and redshirt next year. Then one of these kids could be starting RS-Soph for us.

Stay with Carpenter/Coppack though, please coach please!

IF the WSU QB has three or more years eligibility then I say go for it. One year makes absolutely no sense for our program. High School QBs are more what we need at this time.

We also need a D1 drop down hard running, bruising running back to spell Mr. Groves; some D & O linemen; probably another linebacker, and some receivers with hands. Corner Backs/Safties are always welcome. A punter might come in handy too. I want most of our scholies (80-90%) to go to Kids coming out of High School. Oh, we also need a Special Teams Coach.

If Carpenter or Coppack are better than this guy they'll beat him out for the job. A little competition is never a bad thing. If Swogger comes here he shouldn't get any special favors-and he should be penciled as the number 3 and stay there unless he proves he's better in practice. Just 'cause a guy come from a 1-A program doesn't automatically make him better than a 1-AA guy-look at Lulay compared to Tyler Thomas.

We're not getting all three.

Sorry. I should have said if we get one or two of these. I figured we wouldn't get all three.

Stick with Carpenter for two years. He looked good in spring, fall and 2nd fall scrimmage. Bring in freshman QB's. Focus on run next year. Defense will be good enough to keep the Cats close in most games. I would hate to see a one year wonder QB. ...but we know Kramer will seek a drop down QB so he can hype up how great he is and keep the stands filled.

Both of these are very good points. I would have to say go for the kid. Having him on the roster wouldn't hurt. If he is a bust we only lost a scholarship for one year. No big deal in the long run. He could turn out to be a stud, you never know. Passing up an opportunity like this could really comeback and bite you in the ass, especially if he was great at EWU.

The other thing to think about is depth. We're probably overdue for a quarterback injury or two-how Lulay has gone this long without missing any significant time is beyond me.

I am not against giving a kid with that size and probably skills (an assumption based on his being recruited by WSU) a scholarship and chance but I am still strongly in favor of giving Carpenter the #1 at least in spring ball. He has sat in the wings for years now and deserves that opportunity to lose the job. I think he knows the offense and has a great arm. I hate it when someone drops down from a IA school and is immediately given the job, i.e. Bass over Groves. I would have like to have seen Evin in the mix a lot earlier this season.
