Jamie Thornton, a 6-3 center from Pullman, Wash., has signed a national letter-of-intent to compete for the Montana State women’s basketball team next season, announced Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford.

Thornton, a 2A Eastern Washington All-State pick at Pullman High School, averaged 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, while shooting 55 percent from the field as a junior. In addition, she is an All-Great Northern League selection and a two-time all-conference academic honoree.

“Obviously, Jamie fills a size need,” Binford said. “She is very mobile, can finish and has great hands. She’s a true post player and a great athlete. Jamie had a solid summer season on a very good club team, and really opened some eyes.

“She was looking for somewhere that she could come in and make an immediate impact,” Binford added. “We’re glad that she’s a Bobcat.”

In the last two years, Thornton has led the Greyhounds to a 31-16 record. She served as team captain last winter. Last season, Thornton posted a game-high 25 points and recorded a season-high 12 rebounds. An outstanding athlete, she also lettered in soccer and softball. Thornton is also a National Merit qualifier.

“Jamie is really going to help us defensively,” Binford said. “She has a great instinct for the ball and will be able to change a lot of shots. It will allow us to be more creative.”

Thornton was also courted by Utah State, Santa Clara and Eastern Washington.

“Jamie is an outstanding young lady,” said Pullman High School head coach Mike Davis. “She’s an excellent student, a quality individual and a hard worker. In addition, Jamie is a solid basketball player that has really developed her game over the last couple of years. She’ll be a good fit for the Big Sky Conference.”

Binford will look to sign one or two more student-athletes during the fall signing period.

Can't really go in any other direction but up, Potera-Haskins has trashed this program, I wish Binford all the luck, where is Coach K now? I think he kind of got shafted in the whole deal.
