Defense against Sac

Post by CelticCat » Wed Nov 02, 2005 12:04 pm

Are we going to run a 3-4 or 4-3 with Kolone assumedly back in the lineup?

Personally I would like to see us run a 4-3 against Sac and make them beat us with their passing game.

We could have Rogers/Saucedo/Siataga/Kolone with Papich subbing in.

On second thought, only 5 DLmen isn't a great idea for a 4-3, unless we use Lowe.

Is Cogley hurt? I can't remember.

Stick with the 3-4. Kolone will add some badly needed depth, and be a huge improvement to the run defense even if he only plays half the downs. Aside from that, Marudus and Clive stack themselves up on the line and almost act as a 4th and 5th down lineman. Mac and Epi are then shooting different gaps between the guards. Its almost like we are running a 5-2 at times. I think this works great IF IF IF we continue to put the pressure on. The defense shows its weakness when they sit back and let the offense dink and dive them to death. They cant get off the field and kids get tired.

The defense is getting stronger with the return of Mac two weeks ago, Clive last week, and now Kolone this week. Things are looking up Cat fans!

Yeah baby! The Cats are getting their teeth/claws back. I look for us to do some damage on the D side this weekend.

Ryan Mole is injured, not likely to play I'm told.

Based on our run defense so far this season, this is the best defensive strategy we could deploy.

I hope he plays, and I bet the Cats hold him under 80 yards. Sure the Cats rush D has been weak (at best) this season. But look at the best rushing team we've faced all season - PSU, we definitely contained Rubin (130 rushing) and this D is getting stronger each week. The only back I am concerned this defense will struggle with is Lex - based solely on the fact that he is just filthy good. But if the Cats can contain him to 130, I like our chances.

The defense that takes the field against EWU and UM will be a defense that hasnt seen the field since SFA!

Does holding a running back to 130 yards constitute containing him? I would vote no.

When he averaged over 160 a game, I vote yes.

Rubin is averaging 152 yards per game but regardless I don't think you can say giving one guy 130 yards on the ground is containing him. He isn't what beat us that game though.
