This is just hot off the press from Billings. Just got the email and I am posting it.
I know it's just about football time but I want to give everyone an update on our basketball team. I worked Mick's camp a couple of weeks ago and I watched the cat's play several times. This may be one of the best teams EVER. We have great talent at evey position. I think this is the year we beat Wyoming at the Metra. Stay Tuned

Any word on how Martrell Johnson is doing? This guy could be Great! While in high school (before his kidney transplant) Martrell was being recruited by schools like Purdue and UConn. If he can get healthy and back to his old self, he will be a dominating force in the Big Sky.

Robcat (nice handle I actually considered that)
What did you think about the inside players. That seems to be where the Quetions are. Towsley and Woodall had their moments last year but did not over welm. Pratt & Beye is considered a project, so much so, no one has the guts to list their averages for last year. One JC guy said Beye will be "a great steal for the Cats" , but in the next breath, said "Pratt is a waste of a D-1 scholie". Morris will not be eligable until fall 2005. Marvin Moss , though sound like the real deal. The other three possitions look real solid though.

I had heard that Martrell was taking some summer school classes at a JC in Nevada for the first part of the summer then returning to Bozeman. Why he needed to take the classes or even in Nevada I do not know. Word I hear is that Durham and company are giving him a lot more slack than they would other athletes. They really want to honor the scholarship and do what needs to be done to get him on the court. Whenever, I have asked the Folks at MSU about Martrel I ussually get an earful about what a great story this is, or a great kid he is but never about basketball. Martrell was the stud on the Durango high school basketball team Frank Browne was stud junior. He routinely went up against players 4-6 inches taller than him and busted their butts. There is even a story of him embarassing Davis Paget, the top center prospect out of the west last year. If Martrel can recover physically I really think he will have a great roll model in Marvin Moss to play against this year, I really hope he can get back to where he was, but if not I am still really happy to have him a Bobcat Uni.

Playing Wyo at the Metra is like playing a road game. Wyo has more fans and they are much louder. Billings BB fans a passive bunch. Not a good place to play for MSU.

Tell ya what, it would be fun to have pure 'athletes' playing hoops for MSU again. Although Mick has put some good kids on the floor, watching some of his recent teams has been difficult at times. Wouldn't mind seeing a little 'show time' again - ala Ferch and Lollis.

For the Billings Wyo alum (and there are a TON), this is a great chance for them to root for the Cowboys. Usually they see one Wyo game ever two years, and that is the one. So they are usually all jacked up. Plus all the local transplants who grew up in Wyoming (and there are a TON) have that sense of loyalty towards the only 4 year university in the entire state.
So, basically, 5,000 hungry Wyo fans show up to the Metra compared to the 2,500 'Cat fans. It turns into more of an advantage for Wyoming. Then the next year we get to go down to Casper... and we know that there aren't many MSU alum/fans down in those parts. Basically we never have a crowd advantage in this horrid series. I hate it, and I always have.
P.S. The other drawbacks of playing at Metra include:
1. Old floor which has several 'dead' areas
2. Hockey rink under the floor, making for a cold climate and an even more unresponsive floor.
I've also heard many players complain about the vast open air beyond the backboard, and how the change in backdrop from a smaller gym/fieldhouse to a larger arena initially effects their depth perception. But the 'Brick is big and cavernous beyond the backboards just like the Metra, so I can't imagine this having much of an effect on the 'Cats.

Well. Wyo had the best recruiting class in the MWC this year. We have a 6'5" transfer from Auburn at the 3 who is an animal and practiced with the team last year but couldn't play due to the transer. Wiliams at 6'10" is a JC all american transfer and was very highly recruited at the 4. We return our 7' senior center, shooting guard, and our point guard. Wyo will be significantly improved this year and should challenge for the MWC title.
Last year was a good time to beat us as our senior class was not very good.
How about we end this set with Wyoming until

MSU fans are outnumbered at the Metra because all the Wyoming fans come up for the weekend to shop/get all their goodies w/o having to use a sales tax

I was at the last game and the crowd/atmosphere was very fun. MSU/WYOMING fans going back at each other across the gym.
