Brace yourselves for the "fun-and-gun". Kramer quote from the GF Tribune:

"That ball's going up, playing four and five receiver sets will probably be our forte these last five games. I wouldn't mind seeing Travis with 300 passing attempts the rest of the season."

That's fine & all but isn't this the same guy who told us Bass would tote the rock 25 times vs NDSU...?

This really SCARES me!!! I hope we have learned how to use the short pass. Otherwise I see it being a very long November like last year, when we became so one dimentional.

Maybe he is just playing mindgames with Walsh. :)

I like it for the PSU game. We need to score early and take them out of their running game. I don't think that we can afford to have a few early drives stall because we are trying to establish the run. We need to score, and right now our passing game is the best vehicle for getting us into the end zone. I'm not sure that we use this philosophy against NAU and SAC, but I think it's the right move for PSU.

Hi all. First time poster...long time Bobcat. The last thing I would want is for the Cats to be one-dimensional. We definitely need more ground attack. However, I wouldn't have a warm and fuzzy feeling if Coach K. committed 25 carries to anyone until we can get some consistency from the passing game. If and when the O plays like they should for 4 FULL quarters, even I could get 25 carries a game! Of course all my carries would come at the end of the second half and I'd net -50 yards, but it sure would eat up the clock! But seriously, the Cats run game is a direct by-product of the passing game.

Maybe we should only run. Give up on the pass that we are by far best at. Instead of using QB draws if the other team backs off, we can just go off tackle or sweep. Why throw to the huges number of high quality targets (Murray, Gatewood, Miller, Guinn, Rosey, Brown, Dom). One of the major strengths of the team.

We could gain 160 yards and lose by 20.
But we should show everyone we are NOT one-dimentional. We should show them!!

I think we better be a moving target in this one-the Portland State lines are absolutely huge (according to their lineup in the gameday section of the Chronicle). Their defensive tackles are 300 and 310 pounds.

They list their cornerbacks at 195 and 185 pounds. Pretty big guys for those positions.

Their offense is even bigger. O-line: 320, 310, 325, 290, 310 and tightend is 260! Rubin and their second string running back are 230 and 240 respectively. Even their quarterback is 230 (and 6'5").

Our defense better fly around a lot and hit them low!

I don't know if anyone saw the PSU BSU game, but PSU's DTs are scary. At times they dominated the interior offensive linemen of BSU. Brant, Figs, and Bolts all need to have very good games today with minimal penalties.

I m not saying you can't remain productive when throwing the ball 50 times a game. But as we were promised at the quarterback club meeting last year that with the screens and the short dump off routes we could still manage the clock. However it became obvious that we couldn't. I will agree that our beat up defense did not help our abilities to do this, our offense was still not grasping the concept. i do not dought that it can be done, hell the dolphins and Marino lived by it, as did the 49'rs. But you really have to control the field and not just the clock.

I am quite sure that 1 of 2 things is the case, either Kramer is confident enough with our defense that with their assistance we can make it work, or he feels that with a more experienced Lulay, and more good recievers that they can execute it. I seriously doubt that Kramer is really playing with their heads. Just not his style, I did think it would be funny to have Kramer anounce that the practices are "closed" for the week before EWU.
Just to smack it back to Boobies court and to keep them guessing.

Doesn't seem like too bad an idea. Facing PSU, NAU, EWU, and then the Griz in upcoming weeks, I think it's a good gamble to try to get out ahead of those guys early.

Sure, relying primarily on Lulay's throwing is pretty risky, but I'd a lot rather be ahead and dealing with the arm of Sawyer Smith, the (surprisingly) mediocre throwing of Murietta, and the inexperienced Cole Bergquist as those teams tried to catch up, than be facing the legs of Rubin, Mole, and Hilliard in a more ball-control type battle of attrition.

The exception might be Eastern, as you don't want to give Meyer any more reasons to throw than you have to. But with the threadbare, beat-up defense the Eagles are fielding these days, you've got more room for error in your own passing game, which is always a good thing with an inconsistent performer like Travis.

I guess it's a safe bet to say that the days of "3 yards and a cloud of dust" won't be coming back anytime soon. Where's Delmar Jones when you need him?

I agree with this, to a point. We still need to have at least some kind of a threat to run the ball. If we don't, we will see teams blitz us on every down for the rest of the season. The end of the season last year proved that this is an ineffective way to control ballgames.

That said, I have to agree that at this point, it seems stupid to continue to try and establish a rushing game that just isn't there. Kramer also made a point twice during the weekly TV program that Groves was going to get more of a chance today. :D

I'll say that between him and JD, they will get about 20 total. I would like to see Groves get the majority of them, but just don't see it happening.

My bet would be minus. My over-under for carries in this game (not counting Lulay) is 15.

Oh god! As the weather deteriorates later in the season they really need to put together some balance in the offense. Even with Lulay at QB, November will be a long month if they become one dimensional. I really hope that Kramer is just trying to throw a red heiring out.
