Who will challenge the Cats Basketball Team.

Almost all of the preseason polls have picked the Bobcats men's basketball to win the league title this year, but just like last year when the Cats were picked to finish last the Polls mean nothing after November 11th. Who do you think will be the chief challenger , besides the Cats, to come out on top of the standings at the end of the Conference season?

I think you almost have to pick Montana. Not just because of the rivalry, but because of their all-around talent and potential to produce every game. They did go to the tourny last year and played well in the second half against a very good Washington team.

I was strongly in Montana court as our chief competition this year, but after losing underclassmen, Easly, Farr, Lynch, McKay and possibly Seyfert (not to mention Kamar Davis) What was one of their strengths last year - A very deep bench w/talented player- has become a liability. Still they have a great core of players to build around, Strait, Crizwell, Martin, and Dloughy (sp?), but they are going to have to develop some depth and hope that Seyfert and possibly Chavez can make it back by conference. I still picked Montana, but I am not as confident with that pick as I once was.

I had forgotten about Seyfert. What is his status?

Seyfert it is said has blown out his ACL. Which means Dhougly may start at the Power forward and Strait at center, or They will have to start one of their freshmen on the front line. Freshman big men will also be coming off the bench to provide depth.

I too think it will be Montana that challenges for it. They came on strong at the end of last year and did well.

You didn't have a vote for "No one" in there. I think UM will finish in 2nd place, but I don't think they will challenge us for the Big Sky crown. I think this Cat team is now heads and tails above everyone else in the Sky, primarily because of the reason mslacat mentioned regarding what happened to the griz in the offseason.
Of course, our men's basketball team has left me disappointed too many times in the past to really say that with any real conviction...

I see the Grizzlies challenging us for second, but we should get them this year. I could also see Eastern Washington being better than last year and Sac State is always a problem. In the end, we should win the conference. Imagine winning the Big Sky title and advancing to the dance in Worthington Arena! That will be one hell of a party!

I think they're less likely to disappoint this year and last year finishing 2nd was no disappointment when we were picked to finish last. It's going to be a great year.

I was also looking for the "no-one", pick, so voted for the griz. I don't think anyone in the conference is going to seriously challenge us, but??

I voted for UM based solely upon what Coach K has shown he can do with limited talent, last year. There was no way UM had Big Sky tourney winning talent.

If Seyfert actually tore his ACL, he WON'T be back at all this season...

In today's Missoulian they confirmed Seyfert is gone for the season. Additionally Hasquet has a stress fracture in his leg, Ryan Staudacher
did not enrole at UM, and Chavez is back on the team but will not be elligable until winter semester.

mslacat - the Trib reported that Chawn Johnson had surgery, what's the story behind that? Does this lock down his redshirt?

I was told he would be out 6-4 weeks as of a couple weeks back.

I don't know much about the Cats BB team. But, you said they were picked last in the league pre-season last year.....so how could they have improved that much to be a lock to win the title? Curious minds want to know.
