What is the latest on Mac, Kolone, Lowe, and Bass?

I heard that all four are out until after the bye week. Mac is a game time decision but does not look good.

Question: At this point why not redshirt Mac? He will have missed almost half of the season. He may just get re-injured and how effective can he be compared to a 100% healthy Mac?

I think Kramer and staff know that with Lulay under center this is our best chance to make a run in the playoff for awhile, and he wants the team as solid as it can be this year.

According to todays "Chronicle", Kramer said Mollohan and Lowe remain very doubtful for Sat. He said he flat wouldn't know about Mac until kickoff.

Nothing said about Bass or Kolone.

I'm pretty sure Mac wants to finish his career with this crew; yes, he'll take the RS if he has to, but I know he's chomping at the bit to get back in with THIS team.

IF all our walking wounded come back following the bye week and don't get re-injured, we will be in good shape down the stretch as the team has gotten more experience because of the injuries. Think about it, even IF we were to lose to PSU this week (NOT a prediction), we would still control our own destiny; 6-1 would result in a co-championship at worst and undoubtedly would get us an invite to the playoffs in the event that PSU got the auto-bid.

Exactly, that is what I got from Kramer's pre-game interview last weekend as well. He sounded more like he would prefer Mac to wait, but Mac wants in and to finish out this season with this team.

Can somebody please help me understand Clive Lowe's injury? I thought it was a high ankle sprain and 4-5 weeks seems like a long time for that to heal. Am I off on the injury or the recovery time?

High ankle sprains are a bitch, they take that long to heal. He's okay to walk around and function, but playing football on it is a whole different story. Think about all the pushing off you do with your legs in football. If he were to play without being completely healed, he would be largely ineffective as the things that make him so good (i.e., speed, strength, jump on the ball, changing directions, etc.) would be drastically hampered by his injury. I say let him heal up, he should be ready to go in 2 more weeks.

BTW, one of the things that makes this sort of injury such a long process to recover from is the simple fact that you still have to walk around on it all day long in everything you do. Short of completely immobilizing the leg beneath the knee (which you definitely don't want to do = atrophy), it is impossible to not use those muscles and ligaments just walking to class or into the kitchen. This doesn't necessarily harm anything, it just slows down the healing process.

Once we get past PSu we have the bye and then two very winnable games at home (NAU and Sac). We could let these guys recover until EWU and still be OK.

Thanks Bozone for the information. Sounds to me like some of the local boys on this board need to go carry his books, make him dinner, do his laundry, push him to class in a wheelchair, .........How about it anyone interested?

I fed him this summer, isn't that enough?

I've thought the same thing myself. I would like to get these guys a little playing time in these games to keep them fresh and get them some game-speed experience for the stretch run, but I wouldn't mind playing these injured guys sparingly so that we can have as many people as possible playing as close to 100% as we can during the last two weeks and hopefully the playoffs.

Yeah, I tend to agree with Bozone as well. If we can somehow play some tough ball this weekend and get a win I think that would help our 'wounded' guys a ton as that will give them 2 more weeks of rest before easing them in. I know it is a risk and we need these guys, but what if they go in and play .. get hurt right away and are out for the season etc.? We still end up with the same results as not playing them AND having them out for most of the year etc. EW and UM are 2 very big games and it is VERY important we are at full strength then.

Rogers also has a bad knee. According to a guy pretty close to the team his knee is bone on bone and is playing on guts. This is similiar to what Beau Clark played with. He had some kind of Teflon injected into the joint as a temporary measure to get him through his senior season.

Just what other teams would like to know.
