Kind of thought Portland State might get a bit more love this week after playing Boise tough.

I think the friz at #2 shouldn't be. I also think Cal Poly isn't getting ANY respect.

I don't have a problem with Griz at #2. Who else is undefeated against I-AA competition, regardless of quality of wins? While many here may feel they are overrated, the fact is they started high in the polls, have only one loss to a I-A team and nobody else in I-AA has really proved more deserving than them. I really wouldn't have been surprised to see them at #1 this week after beating ISU handily.

As for Cal Poly it appears that some segment of voters just still are believers. Their 17 first place votes show that many are giving them the respect they deserve, but to be at #6 shows some others must still have them pretty low.

Cal Poly moving up also helps out the Bobcats as well as we so far have only lost to OK State and Cal Poly. Although if the Griz and EWU both beat Cal Poly .. that does probalby help the Big Sky as far as at large teams since that would knock Cal Poly down a notch.

one comment- Stephen F Austin is ranked 24th now, ranked 4-1, only loss has been to the cats, and that was an ass kicking! That game was probably the closest we have came to playing toward our potential, and we destroyed a REALLY GOOD stephen f austin team. I truly believe that we can beat any team in the country, we just need to stop beating ourselves!

Yeah, they just get that East Coast extra votes still though is why they are ahead of Cal Poly. Cal Poly can knock them off the roost though with a win in Wash Griz stadium. Some good games coming up for the Griz that is for sure.

As much as it might "feel" good to be ranked in the top 10 it means NOTHING... until it is proved at the end of the year.

It is the field where the battle is won and lost and really guys-- who cares about what the polls say. We were ranked last year and one little hole ( a blow out at N Ariz. ) and our pride sunk our ship.

Keep the Cats from looking at the polls and focus on ONE game-- hit 'em in the mouth and make it hard-- and then the people will talk!!!

Right now I think EWU has an advantage over the Griz and are playing very well. I don't think the Griz D will stop EWU... maybe slow them down a little. However a win by the Griz helps the Cats more than the other way... and I hope the Griz knock of Cal Poly as it also helps the BSC. In the end the Cats need to win one of the two games with EWU and PSU and they will beat the Griz here. But we cannont overlook the "easier games" with NAU and Sac. But the biggest opponent we need to overcome is our own mistakes.

I think as polls go, if you keep winning (particularly in a dominant fashion that the Griz did on Saturday), you keep moving up.

We're at #9 this week after three wins by three points or less. So, the arguement could probably be taken by another that we don't deserve to be where we are at.

I personally like the indexes better for ranking due to the fact that it takes in the record, the quality of component, several different polls, etc.

Oh by the way, all that being said, I think that these things are mediocre indicators of a team's quality at best.

If they were dead on, I'd find it hard to believe any team is playing better then Cal Poly right now.

I totally agree. Polls are for people like us to have something to talk about and argue over. The only poll that counts is who is left standing after all the battles. If we take the Conference--WHO CARES ABOUT POLLS?

I disagree with you here. Look at everyone that we have passed over this 3 week span. They have all loss. Would you have the Cats not pass a team that lost by 3 points just because they beat a team by a mere 3 points? Over the past 3 weeks the Cats have not rose over a team in the rankings that also had won.

Polls are a very important part of college football. They create tension and suspense during the season. I know I am always excited on Monday to see how things will shake out!

I'm with you on being excited to see where we stand each Monday. As I said in my statement, if you keep winning you'll keep moving up.

I still think that if people are going to argue that the Griz shouldn't be ranked where they are, the same logic could be used on the 'Cats; I'm playing devil's advocate here as much as anything.

Polls reward wins (whether by 1 or 25). Rarely does a team move down after a victory.

When you have been as successful as the Griz have been for so long you get the benifit of the doubt. Like I said before, though, the Griz have a recent history of starting out looking a little weak only to finish strong. People remember.

Cal Poly has a real good oppurtunity this week end to make waves this week end playing Boise this week. Boise looks vulnerable and Poly looks real tough.

Cal Poly is undefeated against 1-AA teams, has beaten both MSU and NDSU badly and finished 9-2 last year. They are not ranked as high as they should be.

Cal Poly was absolutely hosed last year. But I think they are even better this year.

Cal Poly is idle this weekend. Portland St. just lost to Boise St. though.
