Big Sky ranking after fourth week

Post by Yung1Gun » Sat Oct 01, 2005 8:27 pm

1. Griz (defending champs and have EWU at home-although need to go on road to ISU)
2. EWU (Fluke loss last week-and cats play them there)
3. Cats (Hit and miss on O-at EWU and PSU)
4. ISU (They looked tough today-How about #43 DE, absolute stud)
5. PSU
6. NAU
7. Weber State (could be a real tough road game)
8. Sac State

Try to be reasonable about picks also. Lets face it, the Griz aren't the worse team on the Conference

1) EWU...this is more by default than because of good play by them. Cats and Griz haven't been overly impressive either yet. None of these three have won a road game.
2) MSU...both Cats and Griz have won close home games last two weeks, but MSU against better competition.
3) UM...can they win away from home?
4) ISU. Will be in great shape with a win next week.
5) PSU
6) Weber
7) NAU
8 ) Sac

Strong list, I definetely think that EWU MSU and UM are the top three. That being said the team is going to be in position to affect their own destiny with their last two games

Washington is out for UM. He broke something in his shoulder today during the Weber State game. Does this change it for you?
Is this ranking based on the best "talent" team? Or, is it a prediction on where people will finish the season out?

Washington being hurt actually changes...nothing. The griz backup, Cole Bergquist, is actually thought by many, and not just fans, to be the future of that program, and the future meaning starting THIS year, so no. And as far as ranking goes, teams right now that are toughest to play.

The news said it was a separated shoulder (CBS).

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Washington going down might actually be a good thing for UM.

Yeah, I was sad to hear he got hurt, mostly because I think Bergquist(sp?) is the better QB.

The Griz #1?! Are you kidding? They barely beat Weber and SDSU... Two teams that have done NOTHING so far this year (we aren't going to count Fort Lewis High School)! The Griz will be lucky if they end up 500 in the Big Sky. Young Gun your love for the Griz out shines your love for your own wife and dog!

quast, being a Griz fan, i've gotta agree with you. Montana could have lost to both SDSU and Weber at home. The Wildcats out-played the Griz, and lost because of dropped passes and poor coaching choices made by McBride late in the game.

Montana will be lucky if they finish above .500 this season.

Bobby Hauck has this great program on the way to medicocrity. His buddy Rob Penicie is helping him accomplish this.

The Cats are to be congratulated on a great win over a solid ISU team. I envy the fact that you have Lulay, and we are stuck with two freshmen QBs with no game experience for the rest of the season.

The Griz are finished with their cup-cake games, and will now have to play real teams. I could be very ugly.

Don't love the griz, just not a blind fan bordering on stupidity. If my list is so poor why don't you post one yourself? Won't disagree that Hauck and staff is possibly the poorest staff in conference, but they still have studs on the team, and to shut out anyone, no matter the team level, is very impressive. Griz team reminds me of the Cats in 2002, ok offense, with a great back, and a great defense that puts points on the board and keeps them off.

Don't count the Griz out yet. Remember 4 years ago when MSU decided to give a freshman named Lulay some experience by starting him against Idaho State!

My Two Cents

1) EWU
2) ISU
3) MSU
4) PSU
5) UM
6) WSU
7) NAU
8) SSU

I realize MSU beat ISU, SSU beat NAU and ISU beat EWU but I think the conference will be shaken up top to bottom pretty well by the end of the season. Eastern Washington may very well win out. The only saving grace for the grizzlies is great top to bottom athletes and injury attrition in the league will help them. The cats have the potential but I just cannot let myself get my hopes up too high.

UM would quickly return to the top of this list with a good replacement for their offensive coordinator Penicie and a decent QB.

Go Cats!!!!!!!

1 - Cats
2 - EW
3 - ISU
4 - Griz
5 - PSU
6 - Weber
7 - Sac
8 - NAU

I really think the Cats are sitting pretty good and have as good a chance as any to win the Big Sky, especially with EW losing to ISU, and Cats beating ISU. I'm going to go ahead and give the nod to the Cats. The Cats have the best overall receivers and the best all around quarterback (O-line likely a little better than ave). I think our offense can be as good as any, as long as we do not try to continually force the run when it isn't there (I thought an overall nice offensive game plan for ISU). I think our special teams are a little better than average - Murray is going to break one or two.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't appear any Big Sky Defense really stands out. The Griz D looked to have the edge until this week, but giving up nearly 500 yards (373 by air) to a mediocre team at home definitely shows some chinks in their armor. I think the Cats and EW will really light them up, and I will be very surprised if the Griz beat ISU this week in Idaho. Cats D has its moments, still has pretty much limited the big plays (seems the EW game from last year has instilled a bend but don't break mentality).

The game of the year will be the Cat/EW game. This should be a real shootout, proven offenses with not-so-proven defenses. I give them an edge in the run game, with us an edge in the pass game/quarterback play. We always seem to play some real good football against EW, and have some big mental lapses in these games. If we limit mistakes and keep our intensity, this is a game we can win at EW. I think the PSU game (at PSU), will be almost as tough.

ISU looks pretty good, but I don't see them winning more games than MSU from here on out. Their game with PSU should be a good one.

First of all, Cole Berquist will never be a Travis Lulay. The Griz will not win the conference, nor make the playoffs. Some of Cat fans seem like you have bought into the Griz mystique, and think they can do no wrong. That might have been the case under previous coaches, but Hauck and his Big Timber West staff have ended any mystique we had. Remember that your victory this November over the Griz in Bozeman will make it three of the last four. If that doesn't kill the mystique, nothing will!

Here is my predicted finish to the Big Sky season. Sorry for the Cats being ranked so low, but you have to play 3 tough road games, and I think you lose all three.

1) EWU
2) ISU
3) PSU
4) MSU
5) UM
6) WSU
7) SSU
8) NAU

Here is my two cents...if it means jack squat!!!

EWU
MSU
NDSU - oh wait they aren't in the Big Sky
UM
PSU
ISU
WEBER
NAU
SAC

I like the article about looking at expanding to a two 6 team division league...then we would blow the A-10 out of the water

Big Sky Mountain
NDSU
UNC
SDSU
UM
MSU
ISU

Big Sky Coast
EWU
PSU
NAU
Cal Poly
Weber
Sac St.

Eff the other schools whining about wanting to play UM every year...if they can't sell tickets based upon their teams talent maybe they should go join the Big South

You want US to be reasonable and you put the Griz at #1????

LMFAO!

Griz have 5 teams left on the schedule that I would say would be favored to beat them if they played this Saturday: ISU, PSU, EWU, Cal Poly, MSU.

You're right, the Griz aren't the worst team in the conference; as a matter of fact, the Great Griz have scored more points so far this season than only ONE other Big Sky team; the WORST Big Sky team: Sac St.

But I'd say the Griz are slightly better than Weber and NAU, so I'll put them 5th.

My picks right now:

EWU (because Cats have to play them in Cheney)
MSU
ISU (who will start the Griz 3 (and possibly 4) game losing streak this week)
PSU
dUMb
WSU
SAC
NAU

I think this is a good pick!!! NAU looks real bad so far. Weber, PSU and the Griz are about even and those three could flop around a bit. Good pick Fat Cat.
