D Line questions

Post by duelalumnicat » Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:28 am

Is it true that Rogers will not play Saturday because of a concussion? And Siataga will start in front of big Lou? As barechestcat noted on another thread, Mollohan's injury means the Cats will need a big game from the D line. Who will replace Rogers in the rotation? If anyone knows....

D line contributors so far have been: Big Lou, Siataga, Papich, Matakis. I'm also wondering if Kolone will get some time now.

Am I missing anyone?

Kolone and Big Lou played a lot in the SFA game. We were constantly shuffling guys in and out though. I bet the starters will be Papich/Siataga/Kolone with Big Lou (assuming he is being replaced) subbing in. Matakis is out for the year with a knee injury (re-injured it before the season started).

Before Siataga had his shoulder injury durlng the start of Fall practices, he was listed as 1st team NT. So him moving back to that position is not a big thing. He probably moves better against really big guys that Lou does. Lou seems to do well against smaller OL, but when they are the same size, he is not as good.

They have been going with a five man rotation on the DL: Kolone, Papich, Lou, Siataga, and Rogers. All five should be considered starters depending on the yardage/down for the next play. With Rogers out, Jason Macciola and possibly Joe Rothenberger will step in. More likely Macciola for pass defense rushing and Rothenberger when they expect the run. Since NDSU runs a lot, I would look for Rothenberger a little more possibly.

DL is probably the most substituted position on the field. They put in different people depending upon long yardage (pass), short (run), or first down (probably run). You will see 2 guys exchange at least very other play. Also, they need to rest the big guys (in particular Kolone and Lou).

That is unless they move Force to DE, or is he going to play Center, No that's right, he is going to replace Mac at LB. That's it.
