OUCH! NO MORE SPRING FOOTBALL!!!!

Post by El_Gato » Tue Aug 23, 2005 6:19 pm

Announced today:

Matakis is done for the year. Although he'll undoubtedly be back in 06, this really hurts. I kept getting my hopes higher as I kept hearing earlier & earlier dates for his possible return, now this! This is a tough way to start the season...

If you are so inclined, I'd start praying for NO D-line injuries the rest of the way...

I am not surprised. Trainers will all tell you that an ACL is a year and a half recovery minimum. Some players try and come back early but are not effective. I admire Matakis's goal to make it back early but the result was predictable. I hope to see him at full speed next year!

I'm pretty sure I told you all to not hold your breath about Andy coming back this season. He was pushing it WAY too much to return by his goal of mid-October (or earlier), and all it takes is a little tweak when your body is still healing to re-injure something like a torn ACL.

All the same, I too was disappointed to hear of this. You have to give Andy a hell of a lot of credit for trying to make it back, and certainly no one can question his toughness.

Here's to a very speedy complete recovery, Andy! :D

Well, at least now, he won't have the pressure to come back this season or next spring.

Bummer

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

The losses of Cogley and Matakis on defense just add to making MSU the toughest team in the league to predict. The offense is so good, but the defense is so shaky that it's hard to tell what this year will bring. Could be first, could be last, but probably somewhere in the middle.

matakis is a very good ball player but his loss at this point is not that significant...since he has been injured you can be assured the coaching staff was probably not counting on him to contribute because they know well how long it takes for a reconstruct to heal...it's not often athletes heal at the pace the athlete would like...

surely cogley has been on the radar for some time to retire...his injuries must have been a known commodity...

it is just another reason to be aligned in a 3-4 defensive scheme...fewer down linemen are necessary...if you look at the posted roster there are still more than adequate down line men and linebackers to get the job done...i think you are over thinking the problem based on the available talent...although if we have to endure several more injuries or retirements to the defensive line we might start worrying at that point...but so far we're doing ok...
