Stadium Contractor?

Anyone know who MSU selected as the contractor? I heard the finalists were Dick Anderson, Martel, and Swank and interviewed today. I'm sure all would do a good job and are probably willing to do it for cut rate fees.

The Swank family is the only one out of the three that have committed to donating to the cause ($50,000). Not sure if that will help their chances at getting the contract.....

I hope to God it isn't Swank or Martel!! Their quality of work is crap and leaves you with 10 years of fixing to do afterward.

MSU would not let Sletten even interview for the new stadium. You would think that one of the states largest employer of MSU engineers and one of the largest donators to MSU would at least get a chance to interview. I am done with giving money to MSU after this one. What a slap in the face.

I also don't agree with this. All three of these contractors, including Sletten, do exceptional work and hire tons of MSU graduates. Sletten hasn't done much work in Bozeman but does very large projects in Nevada and Arizona. Too bad we can't have it be a group effort among the four.
I'm just happy to see that BN Builders was not on the list. MSU crapped the bed big time when they gave the $35M Gaines Hall renovation to them because "they are more qualified." I don't think MSU should ever hire an out-of-state firm for construction work, ever. I have no idea how they did on Gaines Hall but they are based in California and I don't think they hire MSU grads like Martel, Swank, DA or Sletten.

I know at least one MSU grad that works for BN. I doubt that MSU could exclude out-of-state firms from bidding.

BN didn't bid on Gaines, they were selected by a committee.
For public work awarded through the bidding process in Wyoming, contractors who have their main office in another state get 5% added to their bids automatically in order to keep work and the money within the state.
This has gotten way off topic...does anyone know which firm was selected for the Stadium?
I got laid off by DA and hope to get back to work.

I was told that the contractor wouldn't be awarded for another week or two. I do know though that at least one of the three finalists proposal was based off of adding 7,000 seats, which after demo'ing the existing bleachers would mean they are planning on the $10 million plan coming through....

Either that, or they're promising a screaming deal-buy 3500 seats-get the next 3500 free!

I hope you find work.
Just to clarify, I was just reminded that the project is being bid out by the Foundation and they did indeed stipulate that the prime contractor must be in-state. However many construction companies have offices in numerous states and I believe BN, which is California-based has an office in Florence, Mont.

As a point of clarity, why would Sletten not be permitted a bid?

Isn't Martel the one that was involved in controversy last year? I can't exactly remember what it was, or how it all played out. Not to say that affects the quality of work, but not sure if I would go that route. I am curious too, as to why Sletten wouldn't get a crack at it.

As an MSU Foundation Donor, Season Ticket Holder, and Bobcat Club Member, I hope to find out why MSU would choose to interview a U of M Supporter instead of a long time MSU Supporter. Also, I would like to know what monetary commitments the three finalists have agreed to make. In addition does anyone know who the selection committee is, and what their qualifications are? I always have heard one of the new buildings @ MSU which was built by one of the finalists is out of square. Any truth to that? Come on MSU, you need to do a better job supporting YOUR supporters. Remember Gaines Hall!!

I would place some calls. Not sure who to start with, maybe the Alumni Association. Voice your concern.

You are correct old school, if we are even going to keep the name Martel Field, maybe we should see if Martel would be willing to throw in some of his girls he was so busy with in his spare time!!
