Yeah, it was originally home to the World Football League franchise they said.BobcatBulldog wrote:I remember them saying that the stadium was built for something else originally and that they were going to build the new one smaller and closer to the campus. I know for sure they said they would be cutting out seats to make it smaller, and I am pretty sure they said they would be moving things closer to the field. Not sure how they would do that while leaving the track.Bay Area Cat wrote:It would be strange if they removed the track, as that is the best part of their facility. It's where they had the Olympic Trials, and is a very nice (and expensive) surface. It would certainly make the football field better if they took it out (and started the whole football complex from scratch, actually), but I had always thought that they would be best served to just make the current football field a track-only complex and build a real football stadium elsewhere. As for the current football field ... outside of the grass itself, there is literally nothing that is worth saving. The entire facility is a temporary facility that needs to be razed and built from scratch.
Anything new with Stadium Rennovation?

Ya, it's an athletic facility deal, not just football...I don't even know if it's $50MM. I just know it's a boatload, and it will get distributed all over, like into hoops, baseball and track.GavinDonos wrote:It would take more than 50mil to make SAC's stadium one of the best in Div I. From what I hear most of the money will go to making a student athletic center and very little will go to the football stadium. In fact, I think their new play-clocks and scoreboard are about all the football side of things is going to get. Perhaps a locker room or two since they don't even have those.
Their new B-ball facility will be tops, tho, as that is where they think they can really expand their regional profile.
Don't they host something like the NCAA Championships in track? I don't recall.
Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

What if they spent the money to lower the floor level of the fieldhouse..........20 feet and put in sprinturf? What does that do for ya?
Just tossing out hand grenades. I am really excited to hear what the new fuss is going to be. I can't wait to see where I get to spend my money.

That is pretty good thinking. I LIKE IT!!!. I think that would solve our problems with the indoor practice facility issue.rtb wrote:Have I mentioned my idea yet?
I would like to see the fieldhouse converted to an indoor practice facility, offices, academic center, etc and then a new exclusive basketball facility built. Wouldn't that be sweet?

The only thing I can think that they might need a totally new practice facility is if bball/football conflict with the track team in the fieldhouse etc. The bball team would have its own arena etc, but football practice etc. might conflict with track as they both use a bigger area of the fieldhouse etc. So this might be an issue with using the Fieldhouse as the indoor practice facility? I do like the idea of a bball only venue though like Gonazga just built! Very nice!

I think we should build the indoor practice/track facility first.
Then we totally gut the Fieldhouse-I mean everything except the outside walls and roof. Then build a completely new arena inside the old Fieldhouse walls. Kind of like they did to Soldier Field in Chicago. I think they may have done something similar to the University of Washington's arena. The Fieldhouse is the most dominant structure on the Bozeman skyline. It's also in a central location and a focal point for the campus. It just wouldn't sit right with me relegating it to a practice facility. It would be like turning the U.S. Capitol Building into the Congress' breakroom.
Of course money is no object in my plan.
Oh yeah...while they're gutting the Fieldhouse all MSU basketball games will be played in the Belgrade Special Events Center (so I can just walk over from my house!)

Oooh, now I really like that plan. Especially that last part about me being able to walk over to Cat games while they renovate the Fieldhouse!BelgradeBobcat wrote:I think we should build the indoor practice/track facility first.

Screw that. The fieldhouse is a sweet place to play basketball. I think our bball program is turning around and it will be an awesome place to play again. That place is a staple of the university and we aren't even close to needing a new basketball stadium.bcats wrote:I agree. Brick Breeden is too large for a good basketball arena. You could conert it too a practice facility and build a state of the art basketball arena with good seats all the way around and not so much wasted space.

I think is't a great place for basketball. If we can make it basketball only and set it up for that. Could hold 10,000 with the right seating. If we build an indoor track and practice facility, why not upgrade the field house to make it a better basketball arena.

I think it's cool that we have an arena that has great historical value. It was the largest wood-framed dome structure in the world for a short time, and the Fieldhouse is a fun place to watch the game. I think that it has a lot more open space than it should, and it would be nice to up the capacity knowing that basketball is really looking up right now. (When it opened, it was around 12,000) I'm really looking forward to see what the 50th anniversary celebrations will hold. I'd love to write some sort of "retrospective" for it.

Our new "Domed" stadium. The third in the BSC. Then tear down Bobcat stadium and put the new basketball arena there.94VegasCat wrote:What if they spent the money to lower the floor level of the fieldhouse..........20 feet and put in sprinturf? What does that do for ya?
