Garrett Marino dismissed from Bobcat football team (FREE)

I am curious though, that if this "kid" really cleaned up his act and got his crap together both in the classroom and on the field, would you guys want him back on this team? I think sometimes you have to fall hard to get back up, and maybe he just thought he would always get away with just getting by and being himself.

Everyone deserves a second chance, even third or fourth. But, I am guessing he would really have to go to great lengths to prove he is worthy of another gamble. He would have to show a truly humble attitude towards the team and coaching staff. I wish Garrett the best, he can become a great individual.

I would absolutely give him another chance, with the normal stipulations that go with any player that's been through something like this. No schollie until earned, fully academically eligible, serves his suspension, etc. He needs to prove that he WANTS to be part of THIS team, not just on some team where he can keep playing.

I think this was his 3rd and final chance, preseason fight with BB players, suspended for game for violating team rules, fight with Godeckie (sp), 3 strikes and you are out

Not to mention the elbow he threw at McQueary's head in fall camp.

I'm not convinced this will kick start the defense. Marino has hardly played the last couple of games and the defense still got stomped. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Kind of what I was thinking. I was paying attention to Thomas when he was in against UCD and he actually looked pretty fast for how big he is. No idea if that would transfer to the bandit position or not but as others have pointed out, Coe keeps taking the long way around and is not getting there. Maybe we just need a bull rush there mixed in the the standard spin moves ,swim moves, etc.

Upon further diagnosis, Godecke suffered no further injury.

I think the defense needs some new players to help out the DL. I know it's late in the season but looks like their are some big bodies backing up the OL that maybe could help out. I think JP Flynn could go both ways, plus play FB, and maybe carry the ball on short yardage plays and be damn glad to be out there contributing any way he can!

The hardest part this deal with Marino is our coaching staff bent over backwards to get him here, gave him several opportunities and he still pissed it away. All of the time and his scholarship could have gone to a DE who wanted to be here and learn how to be a better person and player. I highly doubt the coaching staff would let him come back. I really wanted to see him make it and make it big, who know the sky was the limit. Hopefully he gets his head straight and make it some where.

All the while his scholarship crap? come on, are you saying you would not take a chance on this kid? Connor Thomas appears to have turned it around, this kid does not want to grow up yet.

After having his scholarship revoked, he attended one year of school on his own keeping his nose clean (and getting excellent grades I think), then he was allowed to walk on. He obviously made the best of his situation.

Totally agree, and he is really getting some quality reps. Dude could be a beast next year.

Yep, my next door neighbor is a close family friend of Connor's. When he made his mistake, my neighbor told me he was disappointed. He's also the one that told me which I relayed to Colter that he was coming back. I talked to him a couple weeks ago and he couldn't be more proud of Connor. He also wishes Tyler would have figured his stuff out too, but Tyler just wasn't motivated. Now, every time I see him, he asks "How's Connor doing?" I'm more than happy to report on his success every week. He's worked hard to get to where he is now and the thing is that NOBODY is probably more proud of his success than Ash.

Well, most of us wanted things shaken up a bit on D. Hopefully this ends up being a positive. I was truly hoping Marino was going to get it figured out, but someone else will step up and make us proud.

Absolutely! One bad attitude can poison the whole team - I won't be surprised at all to see the defense step up in a big way now that the coaches have acted in the best interest of the team.

The Catch-22 for some of these guys is that they don't have the resources to gain enrollment at an FBS school, yet they don't have the academic skills to succeed as students at schools that aren't football factories that will accept them, given minimum requirements. The sad thing for him is that if he had scored well enough to get into ASU, he'd be taking a course load tailored to student-athletes in his situation. That doesn't exist at the Big Sky level, except allegedly in the case of JR Camel.

I half expect to see him on Eastern's roster in the near future...

Marino got arrested last night. I could only see the booking on the jail roster, so don't know the charges.
