Both the afraiders and saints are **** teams anyway. Hoping Tommy can land with a team that has an upward trajectory that will invest in his development.
Or, the worst teams don’t see it, and it’s time to either try the CFL or a career that doesn’t involve playing football.
It’s not like Tommy ran a 4.24. The video I saw of him on the Raiders showed he could not separate as a WR, and he must not have flashed as a returner.
Not everything is a conspiracy. He is 23 and trying to learn a position that the guys he’s against have bigger size or same/better speed (or both!), and they have been doing it most of their lives at the position.
This is not a failure. Sometimes you’re just not good enough to compete at that level.
Or in the case of guys like Ty Okada and Alex Singleton, you're not ready to compete at that level yet. I'm still confident that Tommy has a great career ahead of him if he chooses to stick with football. He'll find a spot that works for him.
I’d like nothing more than that for him. My favorite Bobcat of all time and just so much fun to watch. I guess what I meant in my previous post is that he should not feel bad and neither should we fans if the NFL doesn’t pan out for him.
I think he could dominate the CFL as a QB.

If he goes CFL and wants to play in the NFL, then he should switch to safety. He’s not playing quarterback in the NFL. An incredible long shot at best.

I'd love to watch Tommy in the CFL. He goes to Calgary and excels playing short-yardage QB. Makes $400K / year playing in one of the nicest cities in North America. After a few years, he attracts the attention of an NFL coach who views him not as a QB but as a joker / hybrid offensive player who also has value in special teams. I think this is more realistic than him becoming NFL WR or safety.

Has anyone heard anything about his next step? Was really hoping he'd prove he should be there but I guess trying to switch positions was just too hard. Bummed for him though.

Practice squad rosters are constantly changing because of injuries and team needs. The Saints could easily resign Tommy tomorrow if he still fits a need. It is up to his agent to be working on teams and keeping his name out there as a prospect and a player to fit their needs.

I just wish he'd get a shot. I mean he kinda did with the Raiders. Perhaps he's just not cutting it on the PS for the Saints. Well he obviously wasn't since he got cut. I wonder if CFL even interests him?

Arguably, he got two shots and the evaluators didn't think that he made the cut. It is difficult to take on a new position at the NFL level.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Update: Tommy had hip surgery on one hip a couple weeks ago. The second surgery is mid December for the other hip. Turns out his range of motion was pretty bad. Immediately after surgery his range of motion more than doubled. This problem started to be noticeable in 2022. It was from all them pounding he took in high school and in his first couple years at MSU. It didn't really effect him when he played QB because so much of his movement was straight and not lateral. Once the Raiders and then Saints moved him to WR it started to be a problem and it really limited him. He will need about 5 months to recover after the second surgery. The Saints are interested in re-signing him after he recovers.

That’s great news in that he’s getting his range back, and it explains a lot on why he didn’t impress in camp. Must have been so frustrating for him to not be able to make the quick cuts necessary as a WR as he’s fighting for a spot in the NFL.

Not to mention how well he did during his pro day. What an athlete! I pray he has a quick recovery

It's good that the Saints are considering resigning him too. Really hope he heals up well and gets back in action next year! Prayers for Tommy!

What I was told:
“His lack of lateral ability makes more sense now. He runs so perfectly upright like a sprinter and on his toes. But now that I think about it, he runs just like a dude with crazy tight hips. Actually really interesting because there’s this narrative that if he would’ve played defense, he would’ve been a higher draft pick and would’ve been a better NFL pick. But if he has hip deficiencies, he would’ve never ever been able to play safety at any level”

That sounds like a Colter quote.

I guess I'm confused on the lack of lateral agility here. Tommy was not only known for his straight-line speed but also being tough to tackle in a phone booth. Like are we just not going to discuss the Idaho playoff game last year? Was that not elite lateral agility?
I do understand it being even more different at the NFL as a wide receiver. The player who actually has always struggled with lateral agility and tight hips is Troy Andersen who always ran upright and on his toes.

Our family doctor used to call them tight Irish hips. causes excessive wear on hip joints. Part of genetics

I was one who thought that it had more to do with his knee surgeries at first. But I think Tommy was blessed with good vision for the most part and could anticipate better at the FCS level.
Maybe the hip issue was nagging and discovered that way.
Playing at the NFL level versus FCS was probably just enough to expose that issue.
Playing another position, such as safety may have not exposed the issue quite as much.
Individuals in my family that have had the same problems have been straight line fast and very strong going downhill in football. Went and running back or quarterback positions they have all had nagging soreness in the hips from lateral movement. I’m no doctor, but that is just been the experience.
