I agree too. Last night immediately after Miller hit his third 3 in a row...Mick took him out.AZCAT21 wrote:The thing that I have noticed throughout the years is that it seems like Mick likes to sub like this is a hockey team. How are any or our players going to get in a groove if they are in for 3 minutes out for 2 and back in. Why do you think that Gular and hays had the games they had last night? Probably cause they played over 30 minutes. The only reason why we have won conference in 96/02 was because Mick didn't play every person on the team equal minutes. In 2002 he played clark, erickson, latovic, reynolds, rich, plummer, conway. That is 7 deep so the starting 5 basically all averaged 25-35 mintues a game. There is no need to keep running players in and out every single timeout, these guys are 19-22 years old and in the best shape of their lives! let them play more minutes I guarantee that nobody gets that tired to the point where they ask to come out, but none of them seem to get in a groove at all.
Watch, if we get some injuries and are forced to play only the top 8 we will be unstoppable because shooters need minutes to get going. Until this happens I truly don't see us winning many games.

Don't think that you are the only one who was a Cat fan before the inception of Bobcatnation. All that I am saying is that the Cats were picked to finish dead last just one year ago and Mick did extraoridinary things with that team. We are off to a slow start, but I think given the ability and talent level of our players and coaches, we will be in the race at the end.

One conference championship in 16 years isn't good? There are 8 teams in the conference, so the odds say we should win one about every 8 years. And then since he is a nice guy we have to give him another one just to be fair. Yeah right.
We should say goodbye to this nice guy, but we better make that a nice goodbye.

This coming from a guy who called for Kramer's head in football season and called out the defense for being "afraid". I just got done reading about 4 of your posts and they were all negative...I just quit reading them once I saw what kind of fan you are.Slackjaw wrote:One conference championship in 16 years isn't good? I'll agree with that. Sometimes Durham's substituion patterns (or lack thereof) are maddening. Its a running joke with us-right after someone hits a three or makes a great play we start saying "take him out he's getting hot."AZCAT21 wrote:The thing that I have noticed throughout the years is that it seems like Mick likes to sub like this is a hockey team. Last night we had a lineup in there that was starting to get a little lead on them. Then all at once the hockey line change happened and just like that Carroll was tied again.

Sorry that it bothers you that I expect more than a .500 record from our coaching staffs. Besides the defense was playing afraid and it was not until they started blitzing towards the end of the year before they began to play good defense. If you would look at when the posts were made you would realize this fact. The defense played great at the end of the year and I'll admit that I am wrong for not posting my appreciation for the change. This coming from a guy who called for Kramer's head in football season and called out the defense for being "afraid". I think that my top 8 right now would be
Moss
Jefferson
Beye
Dissly
Miller
Holmes
Durham
8. would be reserved to Pratt/Durr/Morris but none of these guys imo should get very many minutes
These guys would be the ones that I would want to get the most minutes. I think I would put dissly at the 4 before Durr. If we can give these guys the most minutes and sub accordingly with Durr, Pratt, Morris (getting limited 5 minutes/game) we would be ok.
I really liked Holmes game last year. He seems to me to be the only true point guard on the team. And i think that we need to remember one other thing, our point guards don't do anything as far as getting other players open shots. Holmes seems like a guy who would come in and pass first, penetrate and dish second, and third shoot.
Durham is good for a spark but once again I think that he needs to stick to creating some open looks for other players. I think he is an excellent shooter but just doesn't seem to be on the Danny Sprinkle level of shooting 6 three's in a game. Pratt really hasn't played much this year don't know if he was even dressed last night (but then again i'm not that impressed with him).
Durr really hasn't shown much, I think that if he could turn into an offensive rebounding machine he could be an asset but I just don't think he is that comfortable playing right now(looks extremly scared/tentative).
Edmonds seems to be a player that could be good but once again I think he is a guy that needs to touch the ball and make some shots.
So imo, Jefferson should hardly ever see the bench. he is the most complete player we have. Miller is also another guy that i feel needs to be playing a lot. Dissly looks like he doesn't give 2 sh.ts right now(we need to include some alley-oop box sets for him or try posting him up on a box set) I think that would get him into the game and keep his interest. Morris looks like a junior high kid who hasn't grown into his body yet. Just seems real akward and clumsy.

Catgrad,
I don't think I wrote the "basically holding a tryout" quote, but I answered who I think shoudl be in the top 8 rotation.
One last thing about dissly is that I think that getting him playing the four would keep him on the floor and maybe get him some easy baskets in side whether its beating his man to an offensive rebound or dribble penetration to the hoop. Just don't think that he can cast up three's and get his game going.
Once again these are my opinion and I just get sick seeing players come out without breathing hard.

Are you kidding me? Did you see what type of weekend he had when given some quality time? He practiclaly won the game against NC with his shooting; played very well, especially defensively in his first career start at Denver; and hit a big three and 2 FTS with 3 minutes left in the half to get the Cats a 7 point lead (Billings Gazette today).... which was swandered when he was on the bench to start the 2nd half.AZCAT21 wrote:Durr really hasn't shown much, I think that if he could turn into an offensive rebounding machine he could be an asset but I just don't think he is that comfortable playing right now(looks extremly scared/tentative).
Someone has to relieve Moss and Beye has not produced....and as far as Dissly goes at the 4, look at the box score on espn.com and complare Durr's stats to Dissly's against Carroll College and see what Durr did in half the time!
Durham is playing well, along with Miller.....What has Holmes done except get into trouble with the coaching staff? Jefferson is very solid and Moss is not playing near to his all-conference billing.....Dissly is a GREAT athelte and wonderful person, but he simply needs to step up and be THE leader on this team......he is playing like Durr did early in the year, speaking of tenative....mainly because he doesn't see the ball as much as he should. My top 8:
Miller
Moss
Jefferson
Dissly
Beye (or Morris; or Durr)
Edmonds

I agree with a lot of what you have to say but what I was intending to mean is that, righ tnow there is no difference between dissly and durr. To me right now they are both not contributing, but I think that if one or the other were to get on track and step up it would be dissly. If we had him play a little at the 4 spot maybe he could get some baskets running the floor and beating his man to the block.
But come on catgrad you are also basing Durr's career on one weekend, not trying to shoot him down cause I think he could maybe be productive but he reminds me of a poor man's danny faaborg.
I have no clue what is going on with Holmes but he is the best pure point guard that we have. If I knew why he was in trouble then I would be able to assess the situation better but I don't.

a) Durr is on track and has contributed big since he was given a full 30-minutes to play in the games in Colorado. He had 15 very productive minutes last night.....he has been playing ONLY the 4 spot the past three games.AZCAT21 wrote: To me right now they are both not contributing, but I think that if one or the other were to get on track and step up it would be dissly. b) Dissly is a better player than Durr, but when they are both on the florr at the same time (with Durham) look at what is being done. The three Montana kids together with Moss and Jefferson have done very well lately.

I like all of the players on the squad, but yet again the Montana kids are the spark plugs for the team. It really shows in the Cat-Griz game. Last year, Casey went off for 18 against the Griz. So whatever combo works best will be used, and right now it's the smaller lineup.
GO CATS!

It does seem that Durham is pulling kids earlier than you would think a coach would. Maybe he is just getting everyone playing time in his "preseason" so no one is rusty for conference? Doesn't make a lot of sense, but there is a shred of validity to that argument, I suppose.
It seems to me that if you can't score right away, you are out right away. Looking for the quick fix. I don't know.

Mick is doing the same Digger Phiips rotation he has always done. It always seems like when a player gets hot, out him comes. DA% it, leave the hot players in.CelticCat wrote:It does seem that Durham is pulling kids earlier than you would think a coach would.
