Re: Cliff Hysell
When someone passes it is common courtesy to bring forward good memories of the deceased and save the negatives for another time. Cliff is just simply a former coach to most, but remember that he was a father, friend and leader to many others. These folks are hurting right now are relying on the support of the community, not "negative opinions." Lets keep those to ourselves for the time being.

Re: Cliff Hysell
In his first season Coach Kramer decided to "bench" some of the CATS returning starters and go with freshmen....building from the bottom so to speak. That more than anything translated to 0-11. Kramer enjoyed many of his finest wins on the backs of Cliffs recruits..as it should be. When both Kramer and Cliff finished their time at MSU they had exactly the same W-L percentage. Cliff likely saw his offensive shortcomings and hired a young Jim McElwain to run his offense. McElwain, for those who don't know, went from MSU to Louisville (WR), Michigan State (Assistand HC), Oakland Raiders, Fresno State (OC), Alabama (OC) and now Colorado State (HC). Pretty impressive career path!

Thank you Mr Lisle. You knowledge of Bobcat football history and beyond is most impressive and your delivery was with class as usual.
If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!

Re: Cliff Hysell
I wasn't a huge Hysell fan when he was head coach either. I didn't think he stood a chance recruiting against the friendly grandfatherly character that Montana's Don Read appeared to be. But Hysell also didn't get to fully realize the benefits of the 1998 stadium and locker room improvements which I believe really helped Kramer's recuiting. That and Kramer took chances on players that I doubt Hysell would have. It paid off for Kramer early-we wouldn't have ended the streak in 2002 without Junior Adams.
But that's all water under the bridge. Hysell deserves to be honored for his full body of work as a player, assistant, and head coach.
