Idaho remains at #4 and UCD only at #9 after that game? I don't get it...

Big Sky Strength of Schedule breakdown from Massey

Rank among all of FCS:

Idaho: 1
PSU: 3
Sac St: 7
UNC: 9
NAU: 12
EWU: 17
um: 22
ISU: 34
UC Davis: 40
Weber: 45
MSU: 58
Cal Poly: 81

The Big Sky in general has had some pretty tough schedules so far, with 5 of the top 12 hardest schedules being here in the Big Sky.

The Cats schedule, even with the help of the Idaho game, is still fairly weak compared to most of the rest of the top 10.

SSF is the Strength of schedule with future games factored in, so a little more of a projection.

The Cats SSF gets all the way down to a much more respectable 25th by the end of the season.

SDSU is projected to have the toughest schedule by year end, NDSU with the 4th toughest, and the griz at 19th.

Delaware and Mercer are the outliers within the top 15 with SOS’s so far of 86th and 102nd.

SOS is not very meaningful. It doesn’t measure how you played. If you beat the #50 team at home by 3 points and they were without their starting QB who was leading the league in passing and if another team smokes the #100 team by 50 on the road and has all their starters out early second half, what does SOS mean?

Agreed! That can't show in SOS.

Not all SOS is calculated the same, but I believe the basic concept is the W-L record of opponents, or some variation of that, and probably adjusted for certain variables. So while what you're saying is true that nuance you indicated should (in theory) be cooked into W-L in an indirect way.

All I know is that our SOS seems to go down every time we whoop our opponent so maybe we should start losing to get a better one... :-k

Something else that should/will help us is IF New Mexico2-4 can keep winning. They just had their 2nd straight FBS win (vs @New Mexico St & Air Force). Their remaining games are @ Utah State1-5, @ Colorado St3-3, Wyoming1-5, @ San Diego St3-3, Washington St5-1 & @ Hawaii2-4. IF they could finish at .500 that (I think) should help our SOS since we will have beaten a respectable FBS team.

IF they end up .500 seems reasonable :D.......at least I'd hope that it would help our SOS calculation and whomever is our BSC representative on the committee that's what they would argue for.

There's probably some multiplier for a FBS win, like whatever a normal win is worth plus 50% (or whatever value is assigned). So, every game UNM wins from here out should have a multiplicative effect in goosing MSU's strength of schedule. I would think every game they lose is worth less than a FCS loss to counteract their built-in FBS advantages.

If they go 6-6 they are a bowl team. That would end up being a HUGE win for the Cats.

Actually New Mexico has a good offense. If they ever start playing defense, they’ll be respectable. Averaging about 35 points per game and have left a lot of points on the field.

Based off history no, but by EOY should be based in this year's performance not history.

Baloney I don't think there is another BSC team that would beat them on the road. That's going to be a really respectable win come playoff selection time.

IF they could finish at .500 that (I think) should help our SOS since we will have beaten a respectable FBS team.
you cant say respectable and unm in the same sentence where football is mentioned.
Baloney I don't think there is another BSC team that would beat them on the road. That's going to be a really respectable win come playoff selection time.
If the gris had played them UNM would have scored some major points. The question would have been, could um stayed with them.

New Sagarin ratings are out, MSU is up to #76 overall and passed South Dakota as the #3 FCS team. MSU is ranked right between #75 NC State and #77 North Carolina, so may be a good fit for the ACC??

Up to #1 in Bill Connelly rankings. Would be 11th in G5.
