The first year Hauck was here, he signed a couple of Montana kids who he projected as offensive linemen. One was Eric Micheal (sp), and I can't recall the other kid. Both were supoosed to be good athletes, but were very under-sized in high school as far as weight. I believe that Michael was about 6'6", 230 in high school.
These two kids have not panned out like Hauck had hoped. Michael played some this year, but was not really a factor. I think he weighs about 270 now, still too small for an O-lineman.
I really don't think the Griz O-line will be as good next year as it was this season, and, it was not very good this season.
The Griz D-line will be weaker too, with the loss of Saenz and Spencer.
These Griz fans who think we are loaded for next year are living a pipe dream. Our best players from this season are seniors, and will be gone.
Who will stop the run? Who will block for Hilliard? Who will catch passes? Who will throw passes?
There are more un-answered questions on the Griz than in any year in memory. Yes, my friends, Bobby Hauck has got the Griz on a fast train to nowhere. And, Cat fans are loving it. That's why none of 'em want Bobby to go anywhere. The tide has changed in Montana collegiate football, and the Griz sugar coaters haven't realized it yet.

Not exactly, More than UM, but not the majority.longhorn_22 wrote:Yes.Wolfman wrote:Are most of the Cats O-linemen Montana kids?
Hirst - washington
Jensen - Calif
Veranlic - MT
Birkeland - MT
Lou - Calif
Hanson, who has a very good chance of starting is also MT.
This past year Bolton was ID, and Fig was CA.
On the flipside, UM had no Montana Starters.
Rhoades and Balogh were Washington
Marshall - Calif
Orwig - Kansas
Fink - ID
So more than UM, but not a majority.

He's in the same class as Verlanic, Beniger, and Fajre who were all up there.longhorn_22 wrote:He'll be a sophomore, which is why I didn't put him up there.canyoncat wrote:Don't forget Chris Smith from Laurel. I think he is going to play a ton for us next year.

They have more of a chance of starting than he does though.wbtfg wrote:He's in the same class as Verlanic, Beniger, and Fajre who were all up there.longhorn_22 wrote:He'll be a sophomore, which is why I didn't put him up there.canyoncat wrote:Don't forget Chris Smith from Laurel. Jeff Hanson needs to gain more weight but, yes, I do agree with you. He is going to be awesome for us.BozoneCat wrote:The guy I think has the best chance of breaking into the starting lineup is Jeff Hansen. I hear the kid was a stud on scout team this year, he was on redshirt alert all season long.

You mean that you Cat fans had to endure all of that bullsh*t from these pin heads about how the Griz were winning with "Montana kids", and the Cats were mostly "Out of Staters", when the entire starting O-line for Montana was from out-of-state????
Can you spell Hypocrite?
I apologize for some of my Griz fan bretheran. Forgive them, for they can not help themselves.

Wolfy, how could you possibly be a good, Knowledgeable Griz fan, when you do not even know where the starting O-line is from?

Was it that Ryan kid from Billings? I can't remember if Ryan was OL or DL, but he was the protypical OL recruit for um...the guys who had height and a frame that could support almost 3 bills plus played hoops so had good feet.Wolfman wrote:The first year Hauck was here, he signed a couple of Montana kids who he projected as offensive linemen. It was the same year that BH gave partial scholly money to a bunch of Montana kids, and so he could then say he recruited MT. Not at all saying that these kids didn't have I-AA skills, but if they all panned out, then it would have gone down in history as the greatest of all Montana recruiting classes of all time.
Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

Actually sounds the same as MSU's listBleedinbluengold wrote: he was the protypical OL recruit for um...the guys who had height and a frame that could support almost 3 bills plus played hoops so had good feet.
Swaggert
Hirst
Jensen
(and now Hansen)
All fell out of this mold. Hirst and Jensen were less than 240 when they appeared at school. But all are tall, long arms, and had big frames. Also played multiple sports. True tackles.
Now guards and centers are the big lower body guys with an attitude (i.e. Figs and Bolton and Wolf and Quast?
