Players gotta buy into the Bobcat way or its the highway. Sorry to see him go. I always like to see success stories on players that need a second chance

Yeah, you never know. He could change his ways and be back on the team next year, ala Brad Daly. Or not.WeedKillinCat wrote:Players gotta buy into the Bobcat way or its the highway. Sorry to see him go. I always like to see success stories on players that need a second chance

I have been mentioning for a few weeks now that there is a cancer on our defense, causing a lack of passion and laziness. I hope this was it and the surgeon cut all of it out.

Not 100% sure on the following but where I have the Chronicle, I'm sure that I made the note after reading the article. The others I wrote down after reading something but have no idea what the source was.allcat wrote:No, he sent an offensive lineman packing a couple years ago.mslacatfan wrote:Is this the first time Ash has ever dismissed a player from the team???.... I can't think of any others
Mar/2011...DeSean Thomas (have no verification)
Mar/2011...Killian Fitzpatrick (no verification)
Feb/2012...Trey Spirlin (think this can be validated by a Chronicle article 03/18)
Feb/2012...Roger Trammell (think Chronicle verification/appeal denied)
Mar/2013...Christian Keli'i (think Chronicle verification 03/18)
Oct/2013...Ijumaa Armstrong (have no verification)

I have been dreading, yet expecting this since he was benched against Central Arkansas.

It's not really an issue from a production standpoint. Honestly MSU can't get much worse on D now anyway. Someone mentioned moving Sheridan outside and starting Thomas. I think that could be an interesting switch and maybe kick start the DL.

Sorry to see this come about as I was thinking that he was matched up with the best possible position coach as a mentor. I wish him the best but understand from personal experience that it takes some of us a long time to "get" it.

Brad Daly left willingly. Marino was kicked off. Therefore, not ala Brad Daly…pretty bad comparison to be honest.TomCat88 wrote:Yeah, you never know. I doubt it. Unless I read it wrong, from what Colter wrote, MSU immediately cut his financial aid. I doubt Marino is still going to classes. If he's still in Bozeman by the weekend, I'll assume it's because he has other "things" to attend to before he leaves Bozeman for good.TomCat88 wrote: Yeah, you never know. On the other side of the spectrum, Connor Thomas seems to have learned a lot since his scholarship was pulled. That's a positive reclamation project, isn't it?

I talked to Garrett over the weekend. I really liked him and sad to see him go. He was struggling with an achilles problem so it affected pushing off. He told me school was a real struggle. He wasn't used to this level of academics. He was honest about it. He didn't think he could do it. He is a very sincere kid. It is a shame because he does have so much ability. I really hope he can get it together. I am glad the coaching staff gave him a shot. If it had worked, I think he would have been a very good player. Good luck Garrett!!

He had the chance to be truly special. I hope he gets everything lined out and succeeds in his life. Damn shame he didn't work out for us.

Did he happen to mention why he was body slamming his own teammate (one trying to come back from injury nonetheless), for not the first time? Academics are one thing, but there enough instances out there, it sounds like he probably has anger issues as well. He probably needs some counseling I'm guessing.bobcatbob wrote:I talked to Garrett over the weekend. I really liked him and sad to see him go. That's what I suspected. The Catch-22 for some of these guys is that they don't have the resources to gain enrollment at an FBS school, yet they don't have the academic skills to succeed as students at schools that aren't football factories that will accept them, given minimum requirements. The sad thing for him is that if he had scored well enough to get into ASU, he'd be taking a course load tailored to student-athletes in his situation. That doesn't exist at the Big Sky level, except allegedly in the case of JR Camel.bobcatbob wrote: He wasn't used to this level of academics. He was honest about it.

Well, alrighty then. While not a fan of him due to an incident during fall camp, I am still a bit surprised. I had to read Colter's headline twice because I wasn't sure I read it correctly. With all that said, I certainly hope he finds a place to land and gets whatever it is all in order. Everyone likes a redemption story. It is too bad Marino couldn't be one of those.

While he may have struggled academically, that is not why he was kicked off the team.PapaG wrote:That's what I suspected.
