If they cried about a grocery store up there I can only immagine what would happen if they proposed a hotel.barechestcat wrote:Belgradebobcat,
You are probably as aware as I am about the problems centered around the city commission and construction in Bozeman. Heck, we can't even get approval of projects that meet zoning requirements much less change them to accommodate a hotel in that area of town. My lord what would the neighbors up there think of all of that extra traffic that would be generated?

Mexican food in Montana??profisme wrote:Honestly, when it comes to Mexican food, the best place to sit down is Azteca Cantina. Santa Fe Red's is ok, the atmosphere is better, but the food isn't quite as good, in my opinion.
Best to eat Mexican food only below the Arizona/New Mexico border extended East to Western Texas and West to Southern California
There is only Taco Bell and wanta be Mexicana food outside this area.
Stick with other types of food in Montana

bobcatlion fan,
So, is that to say that nowhere in the US can you find quality Chinese/Asian food?
The truth is we have at least one family in Bozeman with direct ties to Central America and produce great Mexican food (Guadalajara Restaurant).
Also, the Bamboo Garden in Bozeman is owned by a family who migrated here from China. The husband comes from a family of famous chefs in China and their food is fantastic!

Try the special Rib Eye or Filet and you will never have the ribs again (even though they are great).coachouert wrote:When going to the Rib and Chop house, I always tell myself that I'm going to order something different but at the last second I balk and order a half rack of ribs.....honestly the best ribs I have ever had! I have also heard that Willow Creek has fantastic ribs too, it's about a 45 minute drive, but definiately worth it in the end! You've got me curious about the Livingston Chop House, though. I'll try to make it over there the next time I'm in Montana.

Sorry, I haven't tried the Mexican Resturant indicated so I could be very wrong. It's just from multiple past experiences that with so many other good resturants for that area, I don't want to take the chance of finding a pearl amoung so many bad mexican resturants. I previous years, I've tried Mexican resturants from Tokyo to London and most places inbetween. Reason why I've narrowed my boundries on that type of resturants. You have a great chance of finding good mexican at most of the resturants in the TEXMEX area.
As for the Chinese food, didn't make a comment about that and will not. The Bamboo Garden is very good (been there multiple times) and should have made my list.
But if I was coming to Bozeman for just one weekend, I would go to the others first (Bar 3 for ribs Friday night on entering town, Pickel Barrel for a Brunch sub (Cheese Steak) prior to the game, Livingston for Dinner Sat night after the game (Rib Eye), Perkins for breakfast the next morning before leaving). Just call me stuck in a rut type guy I guess.

Mmmmm. I agree. I haven't had a Colombo's Pizza in years, but it was always excellent.barechestcat wrote:While we're on the topic of food and if you get into the mood for pizza, my favorite place to go is Colombo's Pizza on the corner of 10th ave and college ave.
Mackenzie River Pizza is another great place. But, second in my books.

I have to put in more opinion. Columbos is excellent!! That is a college pizza place if there ever was one!
Back to the best steak in Montana. I usually get the New York or Filet at Rib and Chop. I have been to many steak houses across the country(kind of a thing I have to try the "best" in each town) and I must say they Rib and Chop is one of the best steaks in the country. If you have any chance to go there, do it!!
With all the publicity they are getting here, they should become a sponsor!

I keep wondering why people keep saying that it is a 45 minute drive - It is only 21 miles from main street exit 309 in boz. to exit 330 in livingston, which at the speed limit is less than 20 minutes. From there it is only another 5 minutes (maybe) to the Rib and Chop House, Uncle Looie's, the Sport, Chathams Bar and Grill, etc.coachouert wrote:When going to the Rib and Chop house, I always tell myself that I'm going to order something different but at the last second I balk and order a half rack of ribs.....honestly the best ribs I have ever had! I usually don't drive the speed limit (probably average 80 on the interstate), but I can get from my place (just off 19th & durston) to my parents place (12 miles south of livingston in paradise valley) in 40 minutes. Of course I take shortcuts to get around the construction on the interstate (frontage road).
I am saying this so that people who might want to go there for dinner won't decide not to because it might take too long/ too much gas. Round trip from bozeman to Livingston should take a MAXIMUM of 1 hour, and that is if you drive 65-70 the whole way.... I will reiterate - it is worth the drip for Dining in Ltown. Chathams is very good too (reservations needed) Just my $0.02.
EDIT:
The best cut of meat is by far the Rib Steak. Most marbling, most meat, and most tender. Plus the marrow in the bone flavors the rest of the meat, making it the most flavorful steak. Try a taste test w/ it and a T-bone (filet mingon) - absolutely no comparison IMHO.

I was talking about the drive to Willow Creek, that's about 45 minutes....the drive to livingston shouldn't take you 45 minutes...unless you are a fat lady on a mopehead.grizzh8r wrote:I keep wondering why people keep saying that it is a 45 minute drive - It is only 21 miles from main street exit 309 in boz. to exit 330 in livingston, which at the speed limit is less than 20 minutes. No worries, I didn't clarify in the first place, so just as much my bad. I'll say one thing, I just got back from lunch at Columbo's and it was delish. Still second to Mac Riv, but hit the spot today. I was starving reading everyone's posts leading up to lunch too!!!![]()
My Bad. However other posters have exaggerated the distance to Livingston, thought I would clarify.

I rarely eat steak, but good lordy I want some steak right now!
Columbos - my favorite pizza bar none. Mack River in a distant second.
I've always felt Mexican was done pretty well up in Montana, for whatever reasons. We like our Mexican food and there are numerous resteraunts. I live in Phoenix so there is my basis for comparison.

Also, Daves Sushi is outstanding if I haven't mentioned it already.

Oh, I left out that I would stay at the Wingate and have their FREE breakfast Saturday morning. Hotel quality is great, the food quality might not be as good, but the food price is reasonable.BobcatLionFan wrote: But if I was coming to Bozeman for just one weekend, I would go to the others first (Bar 3 for ribs Friday night on entering town, Pickel Barrel for a Brunch sub (Cheese Steak) prior to the game, Livingston for Dinner Sat night after the game (Rib Eye), Perkins for breakfast the next morning before leaving).
