Ball was coming out of his hand before any of his arm touched the field. That is what I saw watched it over and over and blew up the frames.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 11:28 pmAnd even if he wasn’t down Jackson’s knee was down when he picked up the ball.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:44 pmHe was 100% down. 1) That was the most fun I’ve had at a game. Crowd was amazing. Haven’t heard it that loud before.
2) Theis is the best RB we’ve played all year (easily), and USD was the best team we’ve played all year.
3) We should have won by 3 scores. Offense went conservative early (I get it), and just had a hard time picking it up when they needed it. It’s hard to grind out the clock against a defense like USD when you’re trying to “rest” your best runner. Taco dropped a TD he normally catches. Their two TD’s came mainly because of mistakes, maybe I’m biased, but I thought we were rather obviously more talented and executed better overall.
Replay was 100% inconclusive if he had lost control or not prior to the forearm down. I think he PROBABLY had control...but it wasn't remotely close to CONCLUSIVE.
Whatever the call on the field was needed to stand, becasue thats how the rule is written.
And Jackson’s knee was down when he scooped it up

After rewatching it several times, I have to say that I might agree with you on this. Ball was moving right before the elbow hit the ground. The way the play was called on the field, it should have been “play stands as called.” Jackson was also down when he picked it up.kwcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 11:57 pmBall was coming out of his hand before any of his arm touched the field. Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - South Dakota, Semifinals
I'm pretty sure you have to lose control of the ball. So, if he's just moving the ball or if the ball is moving in his grip as he prepares to land, that's probably allowable. If he unintentionally is losing control of the ball, then it would be a fumble. If you're going to the ground and the first thing that's going to hit the ground is your arm that's securing the ball it seems reasonable to me that as you're bracing for contact, the ball might move a bit. I don't know what the rulebook says, but it seems reasonable that the ball would be moving in this situation, but I would consider the runner to be in control of it since he's the one initiating the movement.Bocephus wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 8:16 amAfter rewatching it several times, I have to say that I might agree with you on this. Last year people tried to argue that the catch by Clevan Thomas, Jr. was incomplete because the ball was moving in his hands as he went out of bounds. The most likely thing that was going on there was Thomas, Jr. was moving the ball in his hands intentionally in order to keep it from popping out when he landed. If he's moving the ball, he has secured it and he's in control of it.

It seems to me, that if the ball is moving in your hand (one hand), it is, by definition, not controlled, whether it be this play or a pass reception. I do agree that it wasn't a TD as Jackson's knee was down.

C'mon, that's just silly.
So, when you're running down the field and you see a defender approaching switch the ball from one had to another, you don't have control of it? Please. Players are constantly moving the ball in their hands, especially receivers. YOu catch it with both hands, bring it in to your body, take one hand off the ball and tuck it into your elbow and against your body. It's constantly moving from the catch to the securing of the ball and that doesnt mean you don't have control of it. Running backs take a handoff with both hands then move the ball into one hand or the other on virtually every carry.
