Fair predictions here from Sam. I think if he is still employed, Willie Mack is done after the Idaho game, if not before.

I expect Idaho to finish in the top 2 or 3 in the conference this year and they'll face us at home after a bye while we will have just traveled to Sac St the week before.
Not sure why WMG would lose his job after a loss to this year's Idaho team, or at any point once the season starts if everything is wrapped up legally by then. He's either gone before Gold Rush or he makes it to the end of the season, assuming no more issues.

Re: Offseason Random Stuff - 2023
I dont have a problem with predicting Idaho will beat MSU. But, I have a really hard time thinking it will be a top 10 match up. Idaho goes to Nevada and then to Cal. Those are likely losses and puts them out of the top ten. But, maybe a win over Montana bumps them back in. I dont know. Thats a big time match up though and I cant wait. Hoping to make it to that game.

Don't be so quick to count them out against two really bad FBS teams.CodyCat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 1:06 pmI dont have a problem with predicting Idaho will beat MSU. But I understand what you are saying. They played two FBS opponents really tough last year.

Do we get credit for 2 wins when we beat the gris, and then Bobby ridesminte off in to retirement?

I think WMG is gone for performance reasons at some point during the season. The D underperforms with him calling plays. It might even be before this game.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:41 pmSam's projections, and analysis, line up exactly with mine.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:47 amFair predictions here from Sam. Re: Offseason Random Stuff - 2023
Vigen seems like a very loyal guy, to a fault some would say. I don't think he's going to fire someone mid-season for performance unless there is a string of losses. If we come out flat on defense against Cal Poly and give up more than 10 points in the first half and then lose to Sac and Idaho there's a chance but even then I'd be surprised. I don't think WMG is that great but I do think Vigen does.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 2:20 pmI think WMG is gone for performance reasons at some point during the season. Idaho is good. Very physical. Accurate, quick throwing QB with a big WR target. That’s tough for an FCS defense to slow down.LoggerCat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 2:12 pmcoloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:41 pmSam's projections, and analysis, line up exactly with mine.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:47 amFair predictions here from Sam. And, from what I'm guessing - I don't see Idaho, or probably any team not named SDSU or NDSU slowing down our rushing attack... so might be a higher scoring game. I have a feeling though, Cats will get more stops than the spudsters.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 8:46 amIdaho is good. Very physical. Accurate, quick throwing QB with a big WR target. Oregon State 68-28 L
EWU 38-35 W (trailed 35-31 late)
No. Colo. 37-14 W (trailed 14-3 early)
No. Arizona 41-38 W (trailed 35-31 late)
Cal Poly 72-28 W
So. Dakota 39-18 L
Only allowed less than 28 points once.
To get where it wants to be MSU will need to improve in one of two areas. The pass game will need to be in better rhythm with the run game OR the overall play, by unit, on defense needs to go up a click. IF MSU replicates its play on the road from 2022, it’s going to have a tough time going 2-3.
I think the Bobcats have a good chance of accomplishing the former. It will gain a bigger impact by accomplishing the latter. Doing both puts them in the same company as SDSU and NDSU.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Re: Offseason Random Stuff - 2023
The defense needs to be better. Even in garbage venues like Eastern, NoCo, NAU the Cats struggled. Its hard to win on the road but a good defense helps that immensely. I cant remember what the Cats D averaged last year but I think it was around 28 points. They need to be a TD better at a minimum to beat Idaho, Weebs, Sac, and the gris. If they are a TD better and our passing attack improves as Tom mentioned, they might be ready to have a shot against the DSU's.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 9:54 amMSU’s road games in 2023:BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 8:46 amIdaho is good. Usually Stan gets very little correct, but this isn't to far off. A few things I disagreeCodyCat wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 12:25 pmThe Tiers of the FCS:
https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/arti ... 023-season
W&M being a Frisco or bust tier team. With JMU gone the CAA has to prove itself again and right now I think its the 4th best conference behind BSC, MVFC, and SoCon. It was exposed in the payoffs as such. I'd put Furman in that spot over W&M. They are a seed team at best.
I don't get the confidence in Sac St. They lose both QB's, their best Offensive player (Skattabo), their best Defensive player (Maupu Sp?) and their offensive genius coach. They play @Stanford, @Idaho, vs MSU, @um, @Davis. If they go 3-2 in those and win the rest they get a seed but I think they lose at least 3 and likely 4 of those and are a playoff maybe even bubble team. Not seed tier.
