My guess is late 3rd/early 4th. He’s still raw as a LB but will be a beast on special teams immediately. As with all players with injury histories, availability is the best ability in the NFL for talented, raw projects.JDoub wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 7:47 amvarious evals:catatac wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:36 amSpeaking of which, what is the current status of Troy in terms of likely draft round? Hopefully somebody that follows this can weigh in on when he's going to be drafted. Also curious to hear if anyone is considering drafting him for a position other than LB. I think we all agree he's an NFL caliber LB, but he does have one glaring weakness at the position, especially if inside.

"Versatility. Versatility. Versatility.
It’s the adjective that swamps his evaluation when asked about Montana State do-it-all prospect Troy Andersen. A talent with All-America honors on both sides of the football, he’s a one-of-one in this year’s draft class.
..
An outstanding blitzer off the edge and through the A and B-gaps as a MIKE linebacker in MSU’s 4-2-5 alignment, his profile at the NFL level, ideally, could see him slot on the outside due to his innate ability to consistently fire downhill and win in the open-field in the run when faced with one-on-one situations against quicker ball-carriers. “
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/troy ... port-2022/
"The buzz has been building around Andersen all season, and there’s a reason for that. He’s incredibly productive, but he also has an incredibly high ceiling in the NFL.
..
Andersen has a near-elite size profile, and he also has the explosiveness, fluidity, and range to be a nightmare in the box. Couple this with his ball skills, play strength, and functional stack-and-shed ability, and he can be a legitimate Swiss Army knife for a defense. His versatility and pass-rushing upside give him a great projection as a 3-4 ILB, but he could also rotate between roles in other schemes.
A lot of this is projection right now. Andersen is still raw in a few areas. But a strong Senior Bowl showing, combined with what should be excellent testing numbers, can make him a solid Day 2 or early Day 3 pick."

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
3rd rounder seems to be the most common projection - draft rank may move based on measurables, and Sr. Bowl performance.
Pro Football Focus ranks Troy as the #9 LB prospect, and 93rd player overall, so yes, late 3rd rd/early 4th round
https://www.pff.com/news/draft-top-2022 ... evin-lloyd
Troy strikes me as a guy who doesn't care about where he's picked - but more about putting the work in and becoming a great teammate in the NFL. He's a guy who has everything it takes for longevity, like a Mike Person or Alex Singleton. When Fletcher went UFA, it seemed to motivate him even more to make the 53 for the Pats - I highly doubt Troy goes UFA, but if he drops at all to later rounds, I could see him out to prove himself all the more.

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
I think his measurables will move him up some. He'll get high 30's in the vertical, run a 4.5, bench press about 40 times, etc. I agree with the assessments we've seen from draft experts, but I just feel like they're still sleeping on his athleticism and maybe on his drive. I've talked to two of his defensive teammates and they said the same thing. One said once he gets to the combine everybody will want him because they just don't understand yet.

40 times? I doubt that but it would be an absolute earthquake at the combine if he did.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 1:27 pmI think his measurables will move him up some. Yeah that was an exaggeration, I don't think he's getting 40. But I think he'll impress there.AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 1:35 pm40 times? It is possible with his shoulder he does not do all that well in the bench press. maybe he will just do one arm presses to make it fair to the other guys....kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 2:19 pmYeah that was an exaggeration, I don't think he's getting 40. Unless I’m missing something in this article, Sam Herder doesn’t see Troy being drafted.

I saw that too so i went and looked at some other places. Most if not all had him borderline day 2, certain for day 3. He's going to the senior bowl, which tracks with those projections. Here's a pretty detailed writeup:PapaG wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:40 amUnless I’m missing something in this article, Sam Herder doesn’t see Troy being drafted.

Here's a compilation of mock drafts, below the graph is where the individual picks are. Most have him mid day 3.

I'd like to know what Sam is seeing and hearing that these NFL guys aren't. Just one man's opinion but i think he just missed it on this one.

Reading the description, this article is a list of FCS draft prospects taken from another scouting website. Based on his previous comments I highly, highly doubt Sam's personal opinion is that Troy will not be drafted.PapaG wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:40 amUnless I’m missing something in this article, Sam Herder doesn’t see Troy being drafted.

I pretty much stopped reading his commentaries, but it doesn't surprise me Troy got left off this list.

Rosters and numbers are very fluid but below are the NFL teams without a current #15. If Troy gets drafted by one of these teams on day 2 you'd think he'd get his number if he wants it. Day 3 possible too but more dependent on availability.
Arizona
Chicago
Cincinnati
Dallas
Denver
Green Bay
Indianapolis
Las Vegas
LA Rams
Philadelphia

Yeah, I kind of figured at least one team would have that number retired but didn't want to look them up. As a Bears fan, Green Bay is the one team I don't want Troy to go.WYCAT wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:36 pmNot Green Bay. #15 is retired for Bart Starrcoloradocat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:21 pmRosters and numbers are very fluid but below are the NFL teams without a current #15. He'd look good in the middle of our new 4-3 with roquan at will, wouldn't he? He's got the speed to carry the seam if they're going to spend some time in cover 2.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:43 pmYeah, I kind of figured at least one team would have that number retired but didn't want to look them up. If Troy became a Bear I'd buy my first NFL jersey. Would also be cool to see two Bobcats starting at LB for the Eagles.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:51 pmHe'd look good in the middle of our new 4-3 with roquan at will, wouldn't he? Would make sense, someone on here said last week that between the 2 teams last night there were 13 FCS players on the roster. Hope other teams take notice; building roster depth is hard with so much money tied up in QBs and edge rushers, the top end players from FCS are immediately good, prepared depth pieces (all seniors, many 5th year) and special teamers.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 11:25 pmMock draft here. Anyone know if Troy received an invite to the combine? Also, any idea if MSU will have a pro day or will the few guys go to another school’s pro day?
