Are people really surprised there was another coach in the "mix"? It was very predictable from the original story that the other person involved was going to be another coach. The team should have gotten out in front of this and said they were both involved. The only thing silence did was allow Flores to write two articles a week apart and extend the story.

Flores had not shown himself to be a muckraker. I'd change "allow" to "force" or "require".

At this point, I think keeping these coaches is a bigger detriment to the University than finding new ones.

With Garza, I was hoping that this last chance would turn out to be a success story. Maybe he has turned a corner but in hindsight, maybe the better decision for the program would have been a quick firing and setting a precedent.

MSU is a top 3 FCS program and these legal issues are a stain.

The MSU employees in question have court dates. Public perception is the least of MSU's administrations concerns. FTG and their jealous little bitches. Their fearless leader has a much larger issue to contend with and I do believe it's time to rebrand that "school" and I use that term rather loosely as their largest enrollment happens be branded "MSU School of Nursing" in the middle of their campus:

I was a little leery from the start with WMG's hiring. The guy was already on his third or fourth chance from other schools. You had to suspect it was only a matter of time.

The Housewright/Mix incident is just stupid and unavoidable. If I were Vigen or MSU, I would want nothing to do with individuals who make this kind of stupid decision and then have direct influence over the school's student-athletes. It's not just a bad look, it's a bad situation.

You can go ahead and cast me as a stone thrower all you want. I've made some stupid decisions in my life and have always paid the price. But drinking and driving is one thing I cannot tolerate under any circumstance, and I don't play the bull-sh$t game of, "Oh, I'm sure we have all done it ourselves before." I come from a family of alcoholics; I have seen what drinking and driving does first-hand, and how it ruins the lives of everyone involved. I've lost loved ones and I've watched others do time. I was fortunate enough to learn from their asinine decisions.

The only thing MSU has to be grateful for in this situation is that neither WMG nor Housewright hit and maimed or killed someone. Give 'em enough rope though, and they will eventually hang themsleves.

Agree, we can talk all we want about public perception but the reality is that if you ignore the loudmouth assholes on eGriz who celebrate any bad news involving MSU, most members of the public who do not spend time on message boards will take a realistic view of this and not equate a few guys who appear to have made very dumb choices with the university or its athletic programs as a whole. There is no need for a rush to act immediately when we have a process in place that takes time to give the coaches involved a chance to respond to the charges against them. I'm sure Costello and Vigen have plans in place depending on the outcome of these court cases, and if there are terminations or significant suspensions then the good news from a football perspective is that MSU has obvious internal candidates who can be promoted to OC and DC.

I really couldn't give a crap about griz fans and it's easy to play the look at this game to make something seem less bad. Charlie Manson wasn't so bad compared to Hitler. Jeffery Dalmer was just a little odd when compared to Stalin......

I recall reading about a kid to you and me from Ohio who came to MSU as a 205 pound freshman and worked his way to the MVP of the Senior Bowl in Alabama, a good pro career as a player and coach has offered to help Coach Vigen. The Cats didn't miss a beat when Choate left. I'd venture to say it was an improvement, but that's just my unprofessional opinion. The institution is bigger now than any individual and it's going to continue to grow exponentially no matter who occupies various and assorted offices, whether anyone likes it or not. I still believe Gallatin and Lewis and Clark Counties will be the largest counties population wise the next census, again, whether anyone likes it or not.

Regardless of convictions of these three stooges, would it not just be possible to let them go on the basis of not upholding MSU’s Athletic Department’s Strategic Plan and Mission Statement. If these individuals are not fitting the mold of where we want to see our university, what is the point to have such documents? Sure, the school can bend here and there but they cannot break and regardless of any sort of conviction, what happened was also jackassery, it’s behavior that a leader and agent for success for our student athletes should never be involved in.
This. There is a standard. Athletes are held to them. Coaches better be too. This is a terrible look that is getting worse not better after WMG. This program is too good, with a real potential to be great without this negative press based on stupidity.

Agreed. Imagine the parents of the players. Tricky conversation to say respect and trust your coaches...just don't be as f'ing stupid as them.

Fall camp is basically in 3 months. Clean house now so the new coaches are in place at the beginning of it and take some lumps early in the season.

I’m hoping the MSU lawyers are reviewing how to let them go but there is nothing stopping WMG, Housewright, and Mix resigning right now if they did do as alleged by the police and in WMG’s case, the DA.

Regardless of the spin, it does reflect on MSU as the football program is a national brand in FCS and it’s an embarrassment to a growing and thriving university. Just as players are, fairly or not, held to a higher standard than non student-athletes, their coaches should be held to an even higher standard.

As for egris, it’s still the worst fan board I’ve ever visited so why even bother engaging with those idiots?

It sounds like its these guys first mistake, I'm sick of the cancel culture that thinks that people can't make a mistake without having their careers ruined. I say let the process play out and give them the help they need to make improvements in their life.

Mix was allegedly driving with a suspended license, but I agree, let's see where this goes and hope the school can come up with a better prevention strategy.

Seems like not a lot of attorneys or HR staff on here. Are contracts thru end of June. I would expect if cases are resolved we see changes if guilty and if not then let go at end of contract. I am not sure there is anything else they can do.
Having a new coaching staff at the beginning of August, when the season is near starting, is less than ideal.
I agree but if consensus is they need to be gone that is probably what we are looking at.

Udy combines with Vigen as OC. Vigen takes over as QB coach. Daly is DC. Shepard takes over all the secondary. RB coach is new.
Seems like that would work.

I find the trooper’s notes to be pretty confusing. I assume they were driving separate vehicles. Did they hit each other or something? Having a driving competition? That piece of Cottonwood Road is way too narrow to support any tomfoolery (unless it’s been upgraded in the last five years).

Unpopular opinion, Vigens seat is getting very hot (or should be). This is a huge embarrassment to MSU. It’s starting to look like this is an acceptable culture in Bobcat Football.
It's pretty obvious to me from his statement in the most recent article that whether you agree with it or hate it, how this is being handled is not Vigen's call. How the university responds to the court cases if there are guilty verdicts will tell me all I need to know about whether there's a culture problem or if these were isolated incidents with the people involved rightly terminated if found guilty.
Willie Mack's court date is June 28th. We shall see what the judge decides then. Anyone who isn't perplexed by these last two incidents hasn't dealt with distasteful situations involving subordinates and the legal process. One of my favorite military experiences was busting a military policeman who continually screwed with 2LTs, especially West Pointers. Suffice it to say I don't trust Montana Highway Patrolmen any more than I do the Montana game wardens who are in actuality the Sheriff of Notingham protecting the King's deer (and elk). Local yokels comprise the majority of their citations while the large out of state landowners can poach all they want.
It’s that damn pesky Montana Highway Patrol Trooper’s fault!
It’s ok it’s just a vehicle, not like they hurt or killed anyone!!
It’s ok boys will be boys, I’m sure they have all learned their lesson!!!
It’s our football team that’s on the line, not anyone’s business but MSU’s, they’ll protect them and do the right thing!!!!
