A coach would be crazy to not take a 3 year contract. Lets say he is horrible & let go after 2 years, he still gets paid that 3rd year. Lets say he goes to Bozeman & wins 2 national titles. Well if somebody like Arizona comes calling & they really want the guy a little buyout clause should not even cause them to bat an eye. The coach wins either way. It's more of a gamble for the University then the coach.brucat5 wrote:A 3 yr contract that included a buyout clause if our new coach left to coach another team would be excellent. I think Idaho had one on Erickson and have jumped the buyout clause for their next coach in an effort to keep them around.
The question is, would a coach at this level want a 3 year contract, especially if they have intentions of moving to the next level.
Do we offer new coach 3-year contract - your thoughts

I think 3 year contracts are good for both the coach and the university. It takes that much time to really see what the coach can bring. If things go bad it shouldn't be too much to by him out and if he moves on it isn't too much for another school to buy him out and the university makes a little more money. 3 year contracts are perfect for both sides.
