There is also the possibility that the NCAA is sticking to its commitment to the South Carolina NAACP's boycott of the state over the compromise regarding the Confederate flag. Both Coastal Carolina and Furman are playing away from home and out of state.Proud Griz Man wrote:Home game, so is the team going to stay in Livingston again?
I surmise that your AD put in a materially larger bid (I am guessing $30,000 more to convince the committee) than Furman and your home game is due to his bidding skills.
Good luck Bobcats. Furman is a really good program.
If this were the case, and FU and Coastal win, I wonder if the two of us would have to go to a neutral campus site out-of-state to play each other the next week!!!???

Unfortunately for Portland State, who only had quality losses, the message sent from the Big Sky Conference is loud and clear.
Portland State had a 1-A win (just like MSU). And, suffered no bad losses (unlike MSU).
This is the biggest gift in the history of I-AA to host at 7-4.
YOU KNOW IT. ADMIT IT. PLAY THE GAME AND SEE WHAT YOU DO.
GO DOUG GO DOUG GO DOUG GO.AND YOU KNOW IT. We beat them head to head. Done. Finished. End of story.
I almost forgot Airhead_Griz, what is a quality loss?
I hope we get them again on a neutral field.

Furman losing @ North Carolina 45 - 42 comes to mind (16 Sept 2006).what is a quality loss?
Sure glad to see another BSC team making the playoffs!!! I thought you had a possible chance even @ 7 - 4 & I guess finishing strong helps out as well. I hope we don't meet each other again this year though, unless of course it's in the NC.
Go GRIZ!!!
& for now...
GO BOBCATS!!! BEAT FURMAN!!!
P. S. - Met & worked with a Bobcat player from that 1984 team & he cited something about Louisiana Tech (if not mistaken) coming to Bozeman that year as well; needing winter clothing (long johns, etc.) in order to play the game I guess. May have to do so again for those southern boys. Hope they don't grow icicles on the end of their nose.

Indeed he did. That was my origial point, MVS never played in Bozeman so I don't think anyone saw him freezing his nuts off in bozeman as posted in here earlier.Bleedinbluengold wrote:Jerry Rice played for Mississippi Valley State. That's crazy stuff!!! I had no idea until I read about it on your board tonight. You might want to go back and read that a little more as one poster mentioned that, while this has been discussed by the NCAA, they have not yet voted on it (speaking particularly to post season playoff games). Also, it was mentioned that a D-II game was played in S.C. this weekend.FU69 wrote:There is also the possibility that the NCAA is sticking to its commitment to the South Carolina NAACP's boycott of the state over the compromise regarding the Confederate flag. I don't remember a lot of Griz outrage when we were rated higher last year but you got a playoff gameAir_Griz wrote:You can also thank Fullerton. Not just the selection committee.

Air Griz,
I sure would appreciate it, if you would get some education on how the hosting part of the playoffs works before you run your mouth. Once the field of 16 is determined, hosting is based on finances, it has nothing to do with record. Our bid was better than Furman's thus we host the game. The one caveat I would add to this is, I know they don't seed the bottom four teams(13-16) but there must be some sort of rating system to determine the bottom four, and who should go play the seeded teams. I would assume the Cats were rated ahead of Coastal, Lafayette and McNeese. I just am surprised once we made it, we didn't end up going to Youngstown. And have JMU going to Furman. Maybe the committee felt strong enough about the 2nd place BSC team being ahead of a third team from the A-10, but who knows.
Now it can be debated, whether we deserved to be in. But my opinion is the committee wanted two teams from the BSC, as the A-10 got 3, the Gateway got 3(two conferences rated ahead of us in conference GPI), and the OVC and Southern also got two teams in(two conferences rated below us). So they needed two teams from the BSC, and it came down to MSU vs. PSU, and I have been saying for two weeks, that our domination of PSU had to count for something, and apparently it did in the committee's eyes.

Dude, you are in the Playoffs!!!!!! Cat Griz is over. If it doesn't, for you, then why waste an entire paragraph talking about it.FlatheadLakeCat wrote:Some people believe are season depends on one game every year. Not so for this fan. I felt the same way last year at this time as I did just a few hours ago. The streak was over 4 years ago. We've won a couple since. That is fine with me. The grizzlies and Bobcats will continue to battle each other with W's going to both teams. We got a taste of the playoffs back in '02 and for me that is what it as been about ever since. Getting back! Because of what happens early in the season, our playoff hopes rely on beating the grizzlies. I don't care who we play at the end of the season, if we have to win to get to the playoffs, I will have the same passion for the Bobcats to win. Beating the grizzlies is only frosting and that started last year. Last year all we ate was frosting. This year we only get cake. I'll take cake with a possible second chance at the grizzlies anyday.
Can you see the entire state of Montana at the chipper?
Good luck and I hope you pound furman.

I am not saying that the Cats should not be in the playoffs. But, at 7-4 I don't think the Cats should host with the losses that they suffered.old wise one wrote:Air Griz,

Anyone familiar with the Griz program would certainly not speak ill of this system. It favors those schools who draw well enough to have the luxury to gain the home games in this way.

Actually, we played Luna Tech in the Title game that year; it was Arkansas State that came to Bozeman and were greeted with a snow storm.WyomingGrizFan wrote:P. Not sure if it was their coach or Rhode Island's the next week who had a classic line at the Booster breakfast: He wasn't a real big guy but he gave a weather report, saying "The weather is clear & still; it's clear up to my ass & still snowing!"
Anyway, the Arkansas State game gave a lot of us one of those classic "why I hate the Griz" stories. Ark. St. came to town with shoes that were completely worthless on the frozen tundra of Bobcat Stadium, so what do they do? Put in a quick call to Larry Donovan at dUMb and he was more than happy to box up all the shoes he could get his hands on and send them down...
Nice.

Gato--
Until your post today I had always been under the impression that MSU officials knew that call to Missoula was being made and that they supported it because they wanted the other guys to at least have decent shoes. In fact, I thought until today that MSU officials were actually involved in that request somehow.
I have no firsthand knowledge with which to dispute what you say. I'm just surprised, that's all.

P.S. I'm sure I got my info about the shoes from my dad, an MSU alum from the 50s, who in turn heard it either at work in Bozeman or from his Bridger skiing buddies, all of whom hate the Griz at least as much as you guys. The point is that no one involved had any motive to make the Griz look good.
It's all second and third hand info so I can't name names. If you have better info I will defer to you.
